    Hardly clutching at straws, am i not wrong that your club was bullied into giving him extra years/wages on his contract?

    Your not the first club, and you won't be the last, but like i said its a sad day when players stoop as low as holt did to get a bit of extra wedge.

    We've already said its unfortunate what he did. Now he has committed himself to another three years, most of us are happy. Its not like he's gone from 15k to 50k, is it? He's probably on no more than Jimmy Bullard!<laugh>

    I agree it is sad but as stated before that seems to be a part of modern day football. If you guys ever return to the top flight and have a "star" player or two the very same thing could happen all too easily. Clubs are held to ransom all the time I would imagine but most of them are not splashed all over the tabloids and social media sites.

    <ok>

    for the record, none of us really know what happened. i said all along that this was down to his agent being a twat and i still stand by that. yes holt didn't have to go along with it but i'm not sure he would have wanted it to go public. these sort of things happen behind the scenes at football clubs all the time but to do it publicly was a fail, but all the info was leaked by his agent, not the club. he deserves the three year contract extension to take him to the end of his career and he deserved a pay rise too, but i think a few people will continue to be a bit peeved with him for the way it was handled. he'll have to start playing well quickly - he has to prove he's worth those three years and the inflated fee we turned down!

    Holt's a notoriously slow starter to the season based on the last 3 years evidence. this means some fans will get on his back regardless of the contract situation.

    Oh, and where are the QPRaaarrgh fans now? what was it, sinking rats last week?

    Well said Gruffnuts! Without Holt we would struggle next season. Chris Hughton knew that and managed to turn things around in time.

    fact is, even while the holt 'saga' was ongoing, three of our key players, ruddy, surman and martin all signed long term contracts with the club. none of them were unsettled or worried about the holt issue - they all wanted to stay and weren't going to wait to see what happened. rather puts a dent in the ridiculous headline 'mutiny at carrow road' doesn't it...

    Or an alternative view - holding out for nearer his market value.I doubt if we are paying £40k a week,although he is probably worth that if he keeps us up.

    Grant Holt wanted to give his family financial security, can't blame the guy for that, it's not like he's earned big bucks in football until now.

    Agree with you on this F1, whether he moved or not playing football for money is how he earns his living. Can't blame him for trying to get as much as he can in the last year or two of his career.

    Agreed, I have no ill feeling towards him. Nothing is more important than family. We would all do the same had we been in his position. Perhaps it could have been handled better from a PR perspective but we don't know all the facts.

    Held to ransom? Nonsense. The best possible outcome for both club and player. This sort of "stand off" followed by negotiations, then agreement, happens all the time in business. There will have been compromise on both "sides", and both emerge winners. Plus it confirms once again what a great appointment Chris Hughton is. <applause> Crack open the bubbly I say. <bubbly>
