In another twist of the tale, it was the Canadians that refused her entry because of her working in the US (?) so she had to re enter the USA and it was there she as detained. Why would the Canadians have a problem with her, unless she had a tourist only visa for Canada, told them she had been working in the US and clearly had a tourist only visa for there and consequently the Canadians thought she would end up working illegally in Canada so refused her entry.

All because of that Trump person. To those who only read headlines anyway.

She didn't think you needed a work visa if you weren't being paid to work, she made a mistake, it absolutely didn't warrant being banged up for a couple of weeks.

She wants to just get on a flight home, but that needs to be approved by a judge and there's a big delay in getting to court, due to dozens of judges resigning or being fired by the new administration.

And the story goes on, she arrived in the US in January and stayed with a family in Oregeon then left to go to Canada. Yet now they are saying she planned to do the domestic work for board and lodging.

Some may wonder why I take such an interest in this, well having fallen foul of working on a tourist visa in a number of countries (Russia, Romania, Yugoslavia amongst them) I have never been detained for 14 day in a detention center. I just feel that there is more to this story than we are being told.

She had left the US why didn't the Canadians let her in and instead return her to the US?

Moral to the story, make sure your passport, Esta visa and story are all in order when travelling to the USA
I've travelled across the Canadian border into the US in car on many occasions, crossing over at various places, such as Erie, Lewiston, Niagara. Though my Canadian uncle was driving. Never had a problem. Only time I had a problem was going into Canada from the US at Buffalo when the border guard asked me to go to the office across the road. I was in and out of there in 10 mins. I guess now that there is a bit of needle between them things might be about to get tricky.

She didn't think she was doing anything wrong, so told Canadian immigration she was going to help a family to get a free stay, they said you can't do that and refused her entry. Having been refused entry to Canada, being detained by the US authorities became pretty much automatic.

The story is a judicial system that is being stripped to the bone and falling apart, so she hasn't been processed for two weeks.. it's not about being punished for a minor visa issue. I know plenty of Irish lads who overstayed their US 104 week under-24 work visas back in the 1990s and they got a bollocking on their exit and told not to return for 2/3 years.. didn't get put in a cell.

It's not illegal to work for your board, you just need to declare it when you apply for your visa, which presumably she didn't do.

Regardless of whatever rule she inadvertently or knowingly broke, locking her up in a detention centre for over ten days is ridiculously excessive.
The government hardly wants to miss out on 2 sources of tax revenue, regardless of how much may fall through the cracks with the two sided transaction.

From my visits Canada and the US if you want to work there you have to declare why and where, they are very picky if you are doing jobs that locals should do and you can be quizzed extensively .

Off to France on Sunday, St Nazaire and Orleans, family duties. Not too excited really, been to both places many times, not a lot to do at this time of year but it has to be done. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Update on the Spain trip, oh my ****ing god the weather changed, it’s been like a scene from twister… everything about this country is full on, from the people, the climate and the countryside. They have dart firing caterpillars, what the **** is all that about….dangerous for animals such as dogs and give humans a nasty illness. Here are the little ****ers, they march in lines, leader at the front, lazy bastard at the back. No guesses for where norm would be lol. Nearly stood on these twats…

Dart firing? Reminds me of Bangkok. Do the catapillers do tricks with ping pong balls and cigarettes as well?
