Just done 6 days babysitting my two grandkids in competa, all expenses paid, Leeds airport was a ****ing nightmare though, literally queuing out the carpark. Weather was amazing, children were good but I almost forgot their lunch on the first morning lol… oops!!!
Two weeks ago today I flew out of Manchester airport and they lost my suitcase. I'd just about given up on seeing it again then today they just called and said it'd been found still in Manchester tagless! Hopefully I'll get it back before I fly off to Northern Cyprus week after next on holiday! BTW anyone been to Turkish Cyprus? I'm expecting wall to wall City shirts....
I was there over xmas 2021, walking holiday. It's clearly a bit under-developed but none the worse for that. Very friendly people, easy to find nice food, drink etc. If you're half decent on your feet some of the hilltop castles are worth the effort.
I think this says more about how your mind works. But the last time I saw them they were carrying a violin case.
Just been in a boozer for a livener Full of Liverpool etc flags and nestled in the corner a city flag Nice one boys
Anyone been to LA? Looking for tips where to stay in and around Venice beach etc...etc.. I've heard from a few people that Hollywood, particular H'wood Boulevard, is not worth visiting.
Venice beach is definitely the place to stay in LA, very cool place. We stayed at the Ellison. Didn’t think much to Hollywood personally, full of over priced shops and pretentious ****s, but I guess you have to see it if your their.
Yes, stayed in Pasadena for a few nights on a road trip from San Francisco before heading out to Vegas. Did Santa Monica and drove out to Malibu, you need time to move around the sprawling LA highways to get to places.
I hear the rapid transit system i.e. the subway isn't bad in LA...I've been on the BART in San Fran, which is pretty good.
Stayed on Hollywood Boulevard (at the Roosevelt opposite the Chinese Theatre where they do the Oscars) Was upmarket then (Paris Hilton staying there in height of her fame when we were) so pricey round the pool and some definite mobsters meeting there too! We arrived in a ****ty little beige hire car and tossed the keys to the valet who had just parked a Bentley! Lovely for about 200 yards and then a ****hole. We’d stayed there as it was close to a gig venue though. Actually most of it is like that. Santa Monica pier, really nice…but hundreds of homeless people sleeping on kerbs a few hundred yards away. Rodeo Drive coming out of Tiffany’s you could see people living out of shopping trolleys. Venice Beach is great, nice little restaurant off the beach (Sidewalk Cafe?) that we used a bit. Nice hotel on the beach too (not sure of name but daughter stayed in it) Depends what you’re into but we really enjoyed the Getty Center which is an art gallery up on a mountain. Art was underwhelming but the place itself was stunning with amazing views over LA and a really nice restaurant. Few years ago but the weirdest thing was that loads of pubs had Newcastle Brown…but on draft! careful if you’re driving it’s bonkers. Passing people driving on the freeway whilst working on full sized laptops across their steering wheels! It’s designed for driving though as nowhere is easy to walk to. Odd place, but we had a great time. Hope you do too.
I stayed at the Roosevelt on Hollywood Boulevard in the late 80’s, I can’t really remember anything about it, other than our room overlooked the Chinese Theatre. I suspect this post isn’t very helpful.
Venice beach not quite the place it used to be and personally wouldn't stay there. Certainly worth a day time visit. Check out Marina Del Rey for places to stay, 20 min walk to Venice Beach
