Madrid have their new manager, Juve signed Tevez, yet this transfer still appears to be dragging. My guess is that we are once again penny pinching.

It's very easy to blame & criticise Arsenal. The truth is none of us knows what's happening.
All the rumours are saying that a fee and terms have been agreed so how are we penny pinching ?

This is understabdable, of course Ancelotti would want Higuain to stay. He does not want to look weak from the start, he knows that Higuain is a top striker and he hopes to persuade him to stay now that Mourinho is gone. I would really really surprised, even with all those rumors, if we get Higuain. It will be a very unusual transfer and all kudos to Wenger if he can do it, but I will not believe it until I see it on Arsenal site.

El Confidencial in Spain are saying that Ancelotti has sanctioned the sale of Higuain but I have absoloutely no idea how reliable a source they are

Arsenal are sadly famous for losing out on targets because of an unwillingness to move on their valuation. There's all sorts of people it's apparently happened with - Mata, Alonso, and various others.

Yes no-one knows what's going on, but there is no denying that Arsenal are very slow on transfers compared to other top sides.

Are Arsenal even serious about signing Higuain? It strikes me as very similar to our supposed interest in Goetze and Hazard, players we know we have no chance of signing but can still say "we tried" when our bids ultimately fail. Only difference is this time it seems Higuain does want to join us and the club are just faffing about, waiting for somebody to hijack the bid, even leaking our "interest" in Rooney (somebody we have very little chance of signing) as our number 1 striker just to make Higuain feel unwanted. This deal has been close to done for nearly 2 weeks now and the silence coming out of the club is deafening, it strikes me as a Mata and Sahin saga all over again, we dither and dither and dither and end up with nothing. But at least we tried.

I think it's completely pointless to start blaming the club for a lack of transfer at the moment. Nobody knows what's happening behind the scenes, so you just need to wait and see what happens before making a judgement.

The rumour at the time when we tried to sign Alonso was that Liverpool tried to sign Gareth Barry. When City signed Barry,Liverpool then decided not to sell Alonso to us.If this true then no blame can be attached to Arsenal.
I was told by Nigel Winterburn that we failed to sign Mata because we could only afford to buy him when other players had been moved on.

When have Arsenal leaked any interest in Rooney ?

Agreed.

If we "try" and fail to sign these players, then fickle fans will support Wenger again, using the "at least he tried" argument.

We're not likely going to be signing Higuain, i'm 85% sure of it. Probably a cheaper option in France.
