Something along the lines of .. don't let reputations destroy you before you kick a ball... don't have the small team mentality.. stick together, keep your discipline .. don't drop deeper and deeper.. have belief, chances will come. I suppose what I'm getting at Chazz, is this group, in my opinion at least have bought into Phelans approach in a way that I saw only on occasions under SB. As someone has said, its early early days but for now I think the attitude of the group reflects that they believe in him too. All opinion of course.

Good teams like United yesterday bring their midfield up together to form a rigid line midway across the opposition half. This gives them the ability to dictate play around their opponents penalty area and also makes it difficult for teams like City to break out.
When we attack the midfield is much looser (as if the players are always expecting to drop back into defence) so we can't keep opponents under any prolonged pressure.

Without trying to take any ****ing side in this debate??? At the end of the season it's also on goal difference aswell as points so the one goal manure scored yesterday could be the difference between staying up and going down, yes we could of got 4 or 5 more shots on target and played a more expansive game, but for me, **** it, if the bastards are gonna win, be it by a single goal and in the 92nd min.

You'll never be Top 20 Armchair Manager on here with that pragmatic cautious approach.
The correct answer was in fact: : "I prefer to see us lose 4-8 and see my favourite player Ibra show us his full range of breathtaking skills as we give him free rein to do his stuff."

I agree with you on the substitution Chazz (ultimately that costs us the goal) it was a shame Snodds had to go off as that for me was a game changer. Less out ball. and in the case of the goal protection of the full back. ... but I think it was a case of being pushed deeper rather than dropping deeper. As you say, all opinion and when he has to select a team is when he'll be counted and that against the likes of Boro, Burnley, WBA, Palace, Watford etc because thats what makes or breaks our season.

Exactly this , the Snodgrass sub kinda threw the substitution plan into a mess and putting a CB on for a CF was a mistake , but overall was very pleased with the performance and felt un-bruce-like which was nice overall , the only thing holding things back are numbers now , not ideas , lets hope 4 or 5 come through the door to give MP a squad to choose from not just an 11+2

Your right, doh what was I thinking .... I've seen the light brother.... Please vote for meeeee....

Its an ethos. Its why Bmouth Watford etc stayed up last year. Go out and try to win every games. Itdoesnt matter if you lose a few heavily.
Not this hang on hang on hope for the best dropping deeper and deeper, isolating your Cf who's getting more and more ****ed off with it. Then concede in the 90th minute.
Brilliant mr chazz, now that's what I call Comment..Debate... Create..., no name calling as I didn't agree with you, just a simple your comment vs mine ... Excellent... I still don't agree with you but let's beg to differ...

We're better on the break really. When it's a slower build up there could still be the feeling of the players not knowing how to proceed at times.

Yeah Phelan has had no real dilemmas yet, his choices have been made by circumstances.

All he has shown is he has the backing of the first teamers who will give him 100%. He couldn't have done any more......but is that alone to make him the permanent manager?

I think so. We have a slightly different approach under Phelan. Still based on a solid defence but a bit more direct.

If he gets the job his first dilemma will be Livermore and whether he becomes a permanent centre back. If he is happy in that role then we will have, Maguire Bruce and Dawson (when fit) with little prospect of playing regularly in the first team.

It's a bit of a double edge sword stumbling on Livermore at centre-half. No offence to the others we have, as they are all very capable, but Livermore looks like he could be a top top player at the back. For me, it depends if we bring in more midfielders. If not, then Livermore will be needed back in there. If not, then never mind sentiment, it would be Davies and Livermore at centre-half for me.

I think it is good enough reason, he is getting the best out of the players he has .
It may only be 4 games , but most people make their minds up on things in a much shorter timescale , also any other manager is quite likely to be stuck with the same bloody players so what's the point ? Give him till Xmas at least .

That's what I thought, till Christmas is reasonable. Hopefully he does well.
