Yes. Papers were full of St Paddy's Day, where to get a Guinness, taxpayers forking out for celebrations in London but not a peep about St George's Day.

There was a celebration in Trafalgar Square over the weekend & many other places.

Happy St George’s Day.

There's always one in Trafalgar Square, there was one in Borough Market this weekend as well and it was always a big deal on Carnaby Street while I had a shop down there...

Wow, what a massive celebration of St .George's Day, a load of England second kits hung out to dry.

Hapoy?

At least make the effort to spell words correctly, in English, before suggesting the day is ignored.

Didn't see any celebrations, as you do for St Guinness Day, on the TV news or in the papers.
There was a list in the HDM of best pubs to celebrate St Paddy's Day in. Have I missed the list of the ones for St George's Day?

Oddly enough one of the best St George's Day celebrations was in a Spanish hotel in Benidorm so kudos to the hotel.

you just answered your question really

it's celebrated massively by pretty much everyone simply because it's really a "st get hammered and all the clubs and pubs are open late day"

and like you said, a massive guiness pr ploy

Sadly it's not PC to celebrate our Patron Saints day.

This country is ****ed.
Let’s be honest, there’s not much for David or Andrew either
The main reason that Patrick has a big day is that it’s so heavily sponsored by a drinks company, who benefit from the sales of their drink...so they sponsor it heavily the next year too. The other reason is that Ireland is still such a religious country, and particularly a Catholic one (they’re big on Saints)

Maybe the other reason that George’s day isn’t as big is that St George is a pretty generic St to choose. He’s the patron Saint of loads of other countries too...and of course England isn’t very religious either (you may be of course)

Having said all that I’m right up for another bank holiday
