Last time we played Stoke, he put his back out from excessive bending over to pick the ball out of the net. Shay Given

The sunday supplement programme on sky were discussing Lingard getting a huge pay rise and then in THE VERY NEXT SENTENCE said it'll be a problem for spurs as Dele will be demanding a bigger deal from Levy ... and could well be open to a move to united as a result <doh>

Dele wants more Europa League alongside Carrick and Phil Jones. What can we do?

The latter part is a possibility. The first part is presented as fact.
Perhaps they can let us know how much more money per week he will be demanding.

Does that mean that because PSG pay Angel Di Maria £179k per week, all clubs should pay players who play in his position the exact same wages?

One day it might occur to the hacks how ****ing stupid that argument is, because essentially what they're saying the the entire Liverpool or Man Utd team should be forcing moves to China this summer as there's clubs that pay far more than they're getting at Anfield or Old Trafford.

Following on from this ... http://www.not606.com/threads/bill-nicholson-arms.26897/page-616#post-10415642

I actually have just done the obscene thing and listened to said Talksh*te show
up to that point (for which I will have to scrub myself with dettol-soaked iron wool) .
And in about 2 mins of chatter, you could not get a more succinct summary of the
    football press hack.

Apart from the Rose chatter, Darren Lewis then also noted that Neil Ashton had
also recently wrote about Man Utd wanting to buy Eric Dier.
And Mr Ashtons' summary of this bit of chatter :

Spurs are coping well with the media selling their players.

    <you couldn't make it up>

Just as I predicted, Trippier starting against Watford led to the usual articles linking him with a move - this time the Mirror suggesting a summer move to Everton.

Does it need to be pointed out that Fabian Delph started just his third match of the season against Hull at the weekend? Surely that's a player the papers should be linking with a move away to gain regular football on those rare occasions when he does start...

Brilliant piece of ****ehawkery on Squawka regarding where they think Ross Barkley should move this summer, with the following reasons...

Dream move: Chelsea, as they need HG players for next season
Realistic move: Spurs, as breaking into our team would be "more realistic" than breaking into Chelsea's
Wildcard: Arsenal, because they're higher in the table than Everton
Squawka suggests: Taurine FC Leipzig, because Squawka think it'd be interesting to see him play in the Bundesliga

Can anyone else picture Ross Barkley suddenly slapping his forehead and saying "Of course! If Squawka said so, maybe I should play in the Bundesliga!"? I'd say that was about as likely as the hack who wrote that article slapping his forehead and saying "Of course! Signing a new Everton contract is an option!"

Going by his more recent performances I think he his more likely to be playing for Everton next season. Who would want him? Though maybe Newcastle would be a more realistic proposition if Everton want to cash in and maybe buy a decent midfielder instead.

In the past the obvious destination would be a club of a similar status to Everton where he'd get a change of scenery and (in theory...) the team would play to his strengths.

The problem is that those options aren't as reliable any more, as Newcastle and Villa are in the Championship this season while Swansea are running the risk of heading there for next season, and since he's already at Everton the only other option available would be Southampton - but if Southampton aren't interested, who are the options? Hope that City need to top up their HG quota so leave him on the bench for a couple of years like they did with Jack Rodwell?

He may want to get out of Liverpool, following this cheap shot on a night out:

Seems that he's pissed off some local crooks.

Chris Sutton says that Barkley has been tapped up. he doesn't know by who and he certainly has no proof, but that didn't stop Sutton claiming that he'd been tapped up on 5 Live.

Also, just a word of advice for headline writers, when the exact quote from Claudio Ranieri is...
I don’t believe rumours the players spoke to the Leicester owners about sacking me. I can’t believe the players killed me. No, no, no
...that is NOT Ranieri saying the Leicester players were not responsible for him being sacked.

Interesting quote from that interview, though:
    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-fans-hate-ross-barkley-12877267

Everyone's favourite player, Charlie Adam, immediately refuting Sutton's claim by pointing out that he's probably assessing his options.
Then discusses where he can go and suggests all of the top sides, but dismisses us because we've already got better players! <laugh>
He does mention that we've been linked with him too though, reopening the possibility.

It would be funny if, should Barkley move this summer, the club that signed him promptly sues Sutton for slander.

Anyway, since I've got an excuse to jump into this thread, here's some shoddy non-football journalism: I'm going to guess a fair number of you have heard the story about the guy that was bundled off of a United flight? No matter where you read the story, you always hear the flight was overbooked and the guy was too late getting on the plane so got bounced.

There's a problem with this version of events, though: it's bollocks.

The actual story, which their CEO is trying to steer attention away from with his statement calling the guy "disruptive and belligerent" and saying their staff acted within their guidelines is the flight wasn't overbooked, what they were actually doing is bouncing several passengers off of the flight so other United employees could use the flight as a free taxi - and the guy who was being "disruptive and belligerent" was, quite rightly, demanding to know why he was being told to get off the plane when he'd paid for his seat.

I've flown United in the past and the only way I'd ever make that mistake again is if somebody forcibly dragged me onto the flight, but the fact that so many news vendors are missing the actual story and swallowing the version of events United are giving them beggars belief.

  18. Your account is accurate - from an inside source - and the problem for United is that a) they let the cat out of the bag yesterday that the seats were needed for staff and b) the CEO has set off on a kamikaze damage limitation exercise by slandering the 'victim'!!
And their share price slips into free fall as we speak <laugh>

The BT Sport Watford post-match stuff was also commenting on the fact that the
perceived best first XI has only played twice this season, and despite various
injuries to definite "key" players, the Spurs campaign has continued on regardless.
