If I was in govt, there would be laws forcing online forms of press articles to
have the editing history as the FIRST text in the article. not the last.

I would also consider (for the big press companies) mandating a "diff"
function tied to the edit history (so the reader can visibly see what has
been added/changed/removed between each version) .
