We aren't going to be able to land your mata's, aguero's until we get CL. We have to go for either proven players or hidden gems from elsewhere.

don't agree.... we can get them with MONEY.

Modric is much in demand did he go to the spuds for CL?

There are loads of exmaples like that to show and frankly i am not too bothered.... all i have to say is SUAREZ. we can get them if we pay the cash.

Completely disagree, there are dozens of good teams with very good players who didn't get champions league football:
Bibao, at Madrid, Villarreal, napoli, fiorentina, Roma, interMilan, bologna, Wolfsburg, weder Bremen, Seville, cfc twente

Ya I see your point, most knew about Suarez not sure why no one else really went for him but when he did sign he must have been thinking " playing with Torres? yes please!"

Modric was a bit of an unkown ( something we can go after). Just saying as a start we can still get quality players on the cheap. Dempsey is good, Gylfi showed what he can do, I just threw Dembele in there because he played the other day and he is subject to all of the transfer talk.

Unknown(ish) I would like for us to go for?

Gaston Ramirez ( City, Wolfsburg, Juve, some spanish team interested)
    Armero ( United, Juve interested)
    Strootman ( possibly)
    Defour ( possibly)

Just naming some unknown in terms of they have the potential 2 are already looking at CL teams with money and 2 we could get. Should throw in I hope he we go for Luuk de Jong as well.

I agree and see the point, but many of those teams will now be losing players due to no CL and thus quality going down. I put a thread out awhile ago about the players in those type of teams that we could go for, but with Rodgers at the helm, an unknown to many outside of Britain, it will take a lot of money for them to come I feel. Hence maybe starting smaller.

Of course I would prefer players from those teams, I just think we will probably go for the ones I mentioned above. Especially from the French league I think you can get some quality players for a bargain. Lyon, marseille, lille, psg, etc I think you can pick a good few from that league as well.

Again, I would rather see the continental players in, but I just have the feeling we will lean more towards the ones mentioned.

it is completely fair to state that if a "big" club like utd, chelsea or city, barca, real or bayern bids for the same player we do that in all likelyhood we will not get them.

its also fair to say that we can move quickly, early and with purpose to steal a march on these teams.... its an ironed on fact that mata, silva, aguero, merieles, torres, and many others were available and we rarely moved quickly. I do not see how we bout aquilani and not silva for example... that was mad. i fail to see why we spend 35mil on carroll when we could have bought some fabulous quality.

How about because Silva cost £24mil whereas Aquiliani was £17 mil including performance related fees? City could offer Silva much higher wages. City were buying many top players and were clearly heading for a title challenge. Liverpool were hamstrung by our owners. Benitez wanted Silva, our owners wouldn't stump up!

Carroll's price tag has been addressed 35 million times.

Really what people are asking for is fancy foreign names rather than Stuart Downing. This is perfectly reasonable in a lot of ways. What i think people mean by this though is that actually they want a continental player as they are often seen as being more technically gifted. One thing you can rely on is that Rodgers' system requires technically gifted players, so whether his signings are good or not it is unlikely we will repeat mistakes made in recent years.

Its nothing to do with what Stewart Downing's name is or where he was born. Its to do with how gutless, **** and pointless he is as a footballer and how much he cost us.

I really could not care less whether Downing was born in Teesside or Tenerife, what I dislike about him and his signing is how little value we got from the deal and how much of a massive bottler he is. He makes Harry Kewell look like some sort of Jamie Carragher type figure who was a 100% committed to the club and the fans.

I just don't get why Swansea fans are mad at us. It's not us hijacking the deal, for all we know FSG could be thinking he's ****e and not good enough anyway.

It's Gylfi himself who is the one saying he doesn't want to go back. After that they have no say in it and it's a free market. Nothing to do with us.

He's not signed for us yet, but would be a good addition. Gerrard would be more comfortable with GS in behind him - like he was when Alonso was here. As soon as (or if) Lucas is back they'll be a quality central pairing. <ok>

Gylfi is old news to us now and you can sign him, much rather Laudraup has the cash to spend on who he wants. It will be great to give him stick when he's on the bench at Anfield!

brendan has dealt with this very well aswell saying that Swamsea have to have first dibs......Saying that, i think he was able to say that because of his confidence that Gylfi will not want to go to Swansea and will want to join us instead.

Gylfi, Diame, and Tello to come in, with Sterling and Suso getting game time next season..Combined with an effective team methodology and tactics and I think we will do alright next season......

i dont know if Tello is essential for our squad, but If barca only want 7 Million for him, i say bite their bloody hand off..

Siggy's a good player, but I think he will make a mistake going to Anfield, because he's not going to get in front of Gerrard, ok, I know he doesn't play every game, but if he's fit he will, and Siggy will be back on the bench, something he hated at Hoffenheim, the most sensible thing Siggy can do is stay with us for another season or two, then make his move, but I doubt he'll do that, as he's just a kid, but he will not be happy on the bench, fact. As far as we Jacks are concerned, we will have another 7M from the Siggy deal not going through, on top of the 7M from you boys, which will mean an added bonus of 14M onto our new gaffer Laudrups war chest, and we can do a lot with that!.............. <cheers>
