The Official Off-Topic Chat Thread currently known as "Guly's Joint Gaff", and was known as Krueger's Korner. Was Liebherr's Corner, formerly Cortese's Corner. The original name of Beefy's Corner, is being replaced on an occasional basis. Next time, who knows..? Could be anyone. Could even be my corner.

Firstly, the normal rules of the site apply. You cannot start a discussion about contentious issues, Politics, Religion, or show Porn, etc... The flip side of this arrangement is that there will be a much stricter enforcement of the "no going off topic" rule which has always been the case anyway, on the other threads.

Secondly, the normal rules of the Saints board will apply, (except that you can go off-topic obviously). This is not going to become a "private GC Lite." Personal insults will not be tolerated, and neither will goading someone to draw them out. The whole tone of this board has suffered in the past as differing views have been aired and there have been far too many angry exchanges. Vitriolic exchanges are not welcome and will be dealt with as appropriate. If you have fallen out with a poster put him on your ignore list and don't rise to the bait!
If you see content which is not appropriate, please send the mods a PM rather than fronting up the poster and let us deal with it to save a bun-fight. Lastly, if a thread is closed or deleted by one of the Mods, and you have some good reason that it should reopen, then send us a PM with your reasons. Simply re-posting the same thread again to be confrontational would be considered very provocative and would probably lead to action being taken.

It would seem that large numbers of posts and subjects causes problems for mobile phone users to access this site. So from time to time it will be necessary to close the threads down and start a new one. Approximately every 1000 posts or so.

Messages that are purely designed to increase a post count will be deleted.

Well a lot of it is about just pure practice but people are also just naturally predisposed to being better or worse at some video games. Also these days pro gamers can make stupid amounts of money, particularly from League of Legends and Dota 2 and the like, because not only are they playing in tournaments with hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of prize money but on top of that they can make loads of money from livestreaming with ad revenue and donations. I was watching a guy who was a borderline semi-pro/pro CS player who livestreams and he showed his list of top donators and there were 4 or 5 different people who had given him over $10000 each over an extended period of time just for him to give them shoutouts and occasionally play with them. And I believe the MOBA guys get even more than that.

Yeah that's great, but that's for 0.0001% of people who play DoTA 2 or whatever. For everyone else, even though who have a desire to play professionally there's probably little to no money in it. To put it another way, you have to be a better player than all but about 20 people to get a decent income from pro-gaming. Even professional sports (e.g. football) doesn't have quite so horrible odds as that if you want to earn a decent income (say a couple of thousand per week).

As for me, I play DoTA 2 as a kind of Sunday afternoon tradition, co-op just because it's something that doesn't require much thought.

You're hugely underestimating the amount of professional players let alone those who make their living from livestreaming or making YouTube videos. I can guarantee the ratios between amount of players to those who are professional in eSports and real sport is not that different. Also since when is a couple thousand per week a 'decent' living haha? <laugh>

I vote that we remove the first part altogether and go for 'The Off-Topic Chat Thread' because you're all babies. ;)

I could get by on 104k per year, easily.

Maybe, maybe. Tbh it's nothing I've ever looked into but that's just the impression I get, but maybe it's more of a realistic career option for someone willing to put in the time than I'm suggesting. Who knows.
