Fear not, the photo of Cortese will be printed glossy with easy wipe free surface, for whatever "mess" is deposited onto it by his adoring fans.
I think we should call him Nicola "Marmite" Cortese. Marmite is the vilest thing ever created but some people love it. Ughhhhhhh. Nicola is the best thing ever to have happened to our club and yet there are those who revile him. Fools every one of them.
Better than Ted Bates? Terry Paine? Mick Channon? Winning the FA Cup? Finishing 2nd in 84? Matt Le Tiss? Promotion in 66?
I don't hate or even dislike Cortese and I'm sure not many fans do. He's more of a pantomine villian at best to some fans and represents the "corporate" side of football that so many fans grow weary of. He's done many great things for Saints, he's also done some not so great and also not handled a few situations as well as he should. There is nothing wrong with sometimes questioning things that happen at our club. May be a fruitless exercise, but it's just venting of steam mostly. I don't find it hard to understand those fans who don't quite trust Cortese. I do find it much harder to understand those fans who by what they say, appear to think he can do absolutely no wrong.
Good analogy. Marmite is a by-product of Guinness so can't be all bad. Nicola is a by-product of the Leibherrs.
No, but better than Mr Woodford who I liked very much but who lacked ambition and took us to the point where we could have gone on to be a top club but he didn't have the courage as he was a small town solicitor and that was the limit of his vision. He should have built the new stadium where Toys-r-us is but didn't. Better than Askham who brought us Branfoot and nearly destroyed the club and a million times better than Rupert Lowe who really messed up big time. PS In your list you missed out Ron Davies.
To be fair, Nicola is slightly more than a by-product. If it wasn't for him, Markus wouldn't have ever come near Southampton in the first place.
That's a really controlled and good post about Cortese, CBK. You must have taken some calming pills before posting that . I agree with all in the post, even the last bit as I probably fall into that category, but even I have a little tiny bell making a very slight tinkering, asking how long he is here for and what happens when things go wrong or get tough. So far though, for me he has the big decisions right and may be been a little heavy handed on some smaller decisions. That's the right way round for me though.
This shirt is classy, sponserless. I have a feeling we will get a really nice shirt, only for it to be ruined my some awful sponser like Cash Converters. please log in to view this image
I have always thought that people should be able to buy a club shirt without the sponsors name all over it.
Yep, same here. OK, I don't buy club shirts, that's just not me, but if I did I'd want to be paid a monthly salary for being an advertising board.
