Three international breaks before Christmas is pants though, let’s be honest. For Premier League teams, it’s three or four league games then two weeks of dead rubber international games. For Championship teams, it’s five games then a two week break.

Why is that bad or wrong?

Why was it seemingly not an issue for years but now is?

I think my problem with it is it never feels like a season gets going before you have a break.

If Millar was still fit, he’d be constantly away, same with Palmer.

Plus the Nations League is just a bit dull. I’d rather play a friendly against a team from outside Europe. Appreciate the Nations League is good for mid-lower ranked nations.

We never had the amount of internationals years ago that we have now. Which is why nondescript players nowadays get as many caps as great players who were mainstays years ago.
 
Just thought I'd have a look at how many fixtures there are each year (hard to gauge recent years due to COVID and the Qatar World Cup dates)...

2024 - 15 (Euros) - so far

2022 - 13 (World Cup)

2020 - 8 (COVID)

2018 - 17 (World Cup)
2017 - 10
2016 - 14 Euros)

i hereby deem the thing that commentators and many others are desperate to talk about a swear jar punishment offence.
 
Is this a bit of a revenge job for us..Or perhaps the Greek boss will bring up the Elgin Marbles, and it will be a hatchet job on our best larkers. Hope the ref has brought a good supply of yellow cards. 1-1 or a 2-2.

This is what we should be talking about. Average side who embarrassed us last time out. We should be wounded and desperate to beat them. Plus we're in the second tier and need to beat them to get promoted out of it.

It's led by casual fans of big PL teams who have been convinced that the Premier League is the be all and end all and anything else is a nuisance. And the managers of those big PL clubs seem to pressurise their players to pull out of internationals. I think it's great that Kane is making a clear point that he doesn't like it. It's good to see our captain showing such loyalty to the national team.

All that said, the England manager situation has been a right shambles, and it's clearly undermined this international break leading to even more suspicious withdrawals than usual.

That mentality raised its head for our FA Cup run to the final and subsequent uefa campaign .
To many Prem fans look down their noses at anything isn't Prem or CL .
Taking serious the Nations League and going on to win it would get you over that mental barrier to winning something .
It hasn't done Portugal,Italy and Spain any harm

I've made this point before but I think it's bonkers how no one in this country knew Spain were good going into the Euros. Everyone knows it now but they weren't fancied at all going into it. But they'd won the Nations League, we should've been paying attention to that.

I really don't get the attitude that prevails in this country towards certain competitions.
