Grandstand Plus Development

Is there going to be anything left of the old grandstand when finally knocked down or going to use the original seating terracing as part of new. If not why are they meticulously disassembling it when could have bulldozed the lot down from the start?
 
They've taken it down to this skeleton.....and now surely start with a new roof so as to dry proof all the internal rebuilds that need to be built.

What is left now is pretty much all that will remain. i.e. steel frame, a very small number of internal walls , and the upper tier terrace concrete. Pretty much everything else will be new.

Lyndy i subscribe to ifollow so get to watch most games on my computer.
The game against Fleetwood was viewed from a different location opposite the Grandstand.
So i was able to see the work in progress.
BBC Radio Devon do a very good job which makes my conscription a good deal.

Don't be fooled. They are only going to chuck a few hundred deck chairs on the concrete that's left and hope nobody notices. Unless we play Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal in the next 4 rounds before Wembley of course.
 
L1 grounds have standing areas so why not fix corners for standing anyway for the time being also really doesn't need a roof yet like the old spion kop.
Again if extra cash was available but the corners would fit an extra several thousand or more if needed.
 
The roof would surely be necessary to create a dry environment underneath to build all the new rooms, offices etc.
 
Was thinking that if enough framework was erected to hold the terracing only then later on can build what they want underneath it and will be protected by the new terracing...just a thought?
 
Believe that once you have an all seater you cannot currently go back to standing. You had to have an all seater way back within a certain time of getting into the Championship. I think it's stupid personally. Why it's ok to stand in some grounds and not others just seems daft.
 
Good point.... Be interesting to see what gates are when Phase 1 is finished... which in turn depends on what league we're in in all likelihood!
 
Not really sure what the procedure is but just erect the proposed sub frame with either a flat ramp for standing or even benches whatever. Will look a bit odd but simple to dismantle when ready to install seating, roof etc. If it or something similar could be done?
 
We are not allowed a standing area, nor would we be allowed benches. Very strict set of standards for safety in stadia these days so all need to be individual seats. It matters not what league you are in but once you have been in the championship for 3 years, there is no going back to standing areas until/unless the law is changed and parliament seems to have something else on their mind at the moment....and yes, it is a stupid rule

The TV gantry has been cut into the back of the Lyndhurst stand (without killing any seats) and will be staying there for ever, although the current temporary arrangement will be replaced by a more permanent affair. ifollow is pretty good (and generates money for the club) just a pity the commentators don't know the players' names....
 
AFC Wimbledon

The Club are to commence the building of their new stadium on the site of the former Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium in October 2018. The site is close to their former Plough Lane home. It is expected that the new stadium will take 13 months to complete. The new ground will have an initial capacity of 11,000 seats but will be built in such a way that it can be easily expanded to 20,000 at a later date. 26.8.18

If I remember rightly they said that about the new horseshoe development that was built 'easily expandable' but never mentioned since.

Hopefully not....but I'm now certain the horseshoe is expandable and contacted the club a few years ago and never really gave me a positive answer. So if another tier was added then the new grandstand should have been designed much higher as to match the expanded horseshoe. ...hope they thought of this as will cause more problems perhaps several more years away or more.
