If players really held the power we would not have got an extra season out of morgan and vic.

Yet when mane and pelle want to go there are sold because they want to go

So who knows whether fonte we stay or be sold; our track record suggests it is impossible to know what will happen

I'm still not convinced he'll go, but if he does then there's a lesson there for some fans to learn. If even Fonte can leave us...

Don't open your hearts to players, and it wont get broken when they leave. Support the club, not the players. Some people might hate that idea, but loyalty does not exist. Whether you've been at a club for one year or seven years.

Im thinking we tell these players that if they have a good season or two with us then a "big" club will come in for them

That makes sense. You just wonder if we could have set a different precedent, e.g we let one go a season and nothing more

I wouldn't want him as Fonte's replacement, but as a back-up alongside Yoshida (particularly given Gardos' injuries) and maybe an option at DM, I would not be against knocking a few million off the fee and getting Phil Jones in exchange (who would surely become completely surplus to requirements at Utd). The kid who broke through at Blackburn may well still be in there somewhere. But we'd still sign to sign a Fonte replacement.

If this happens, I will be the most disappointed I have been in anyone....and believe me I have been disappointed in life. People can tell me all they like about how good he has been for us, he deserves chance etc, but we deserve better as well. And I reserve the right to be furious (and hope his leg falls off).

He doesn't deserve ****. He got a bazillion extensions and pay increases while he was here. We have tried and were trying still to make him our highest paid player. As such, he had an impact on our whole payroll structure.

Essentially he was making more money that he otherwise deserved as a "reward for loyalty." It turns out, he has none. Therefore he's now overpaid. Let him go.

People always ask me why I get players names on my shirts because will invariably leave or do something ****ty (Osvaldo).

My reply, it places my mind at that time in history when we had said player during a good / ok / bad time being a saints fan. It's not the player himself.

So in all, to hell to you Fonte, but thanks for those 7 years. Who shall I get on my new shirt? I haven't had good luck of late.

I've had Phillips, Surman, Gaston and Osvaldo on my shirts. Thinking either Long, hojberg or Bertrand on the latest shirt.

Well technically Jay (unless I've missed someone), but given his injuries I guess he doesn't count.

Good point - Still no solid news on Fonte leaving yet. A Random on twitter and Manchester Evening News are regurgitating the ESPN report from Saturday

That's a quiz question, who was the last saints player to make their senior international debut and stay at Saints for longer than two seasons afterwards?

JRod...but only because he's been injured. Otherwise he was on the way to Spurs...
IF Fonte goes I'll be devastated, just so disappointed in him. He would likely never have played for Portugal or possibly even in the Premier League if it wasn't for us. To think I was unbelievably proud of him winning the Euros. If he hadn't, would he be entertaining the thought of leaving? Frustrating.
