Nor would I,but none of them was the cream of the crop.

That's what I meant, just didn't explain it well.

We've cleared out the dross but kept the good players.

We don't appear to be actively looking at buyers for the likes of Neil, Cirkin, Stewart, etc, although I'm sure we could've found them.

yes this, its a massive cop out to absolve them of blame if there is a defeat. Really liked LJ stepping up literally on the day and taking ownership.

Hopefully Mowbray does the same. there's no reason to think he wont
LJ got the fans onside straight away with bringing McGeady straight back in aswell

I think he will, he has been in the stands the last couple of games so think he will be itching to get on the touchline now.

He’s not talking about the owners, he’s talking about some of the fan base and using his knowledge of what goes on in the background
I’m not sure about that, but as stated he doesn’t always communicate in the way he wishes. However why would it matter if the fans were thick when it came to footy, of course there will be many, then there are those like me :emoticon-0103-cool:
It could still be read either way, but it would hardly be a revelation if he declared some fans were thick when it came to footy.

If it was a done deal over the weekend as reported and he took training the other day too as reported why would he not be in the dugout tomorrow. Surely there is no reason why he wouldn't be
Because it wasn't a done deal over the weekend and he didn't take training yesterday :D. He agreed a deal in principle late yesterday afternoon whilst he was sat at a Wedding where he'd been from lunchtime onwards.

he'd taken training in the morning then gone to the wedding

Am fairly sure a 5 year deal on twice what he was on in L1 wouldn't have been enough to stop Neil jumping ship. People can talk all the want about rolling contracts and tying the manager down but everyone knows that contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on any more. Neil was tapped up by Stoke and they promised him more money. That is the long and short of it
I agree with this and said so earlier that I believed he had been "tapped" up after our game with them and when he gave them encouragement they sacked O'Neil.
Based upon their wealth they would have outbid anything we offered PLUS it gave him a chance of a job nearer his home.

Imagine the scenario though if we had insisted he signed a 3 year contract, because of the fear of what has just happened, but because he only wanted to continue with the 1 year rolling contract, we told him that he was no longer required!
In that case Speakman would have been doing, as you stated earlier, what he believed was the best for the club. However, I dread to think the reaction of the fans if this had happened because it would have been much worse than now, with fans asking why we didn't just give him the contract he wanted based upon what he had just done in getting us promotion.
As I said earlier, damned if he did damned if he didn't. :emoticon-0127-lipss

Yes. I agree he was in a very difficult position, not really of his making.

But tough and unpopular decisions have to be made for the good of the business, and IMO he lacked decisiveness.

But it's gone now, let's hope the new guy gets going early.

Listening to WMS podcast. They've gone early and nailed their colours to the "it's all the club's fault" mast I see. No scope for the argument that Neil was using us to get a better offer. Shame really as I hoped there would be a balanced discussion
I think there's more insightful discussion on here to be honest. I used to be an avid reader of the fanzines but it's been several years since I was impressed by their quality and that extends to their online content.

I like WMS (not as good as WTF but it's still a good pod) and mate of mine writes for them, but they're just agreeing with Nick Barnes and not challenging his views at all. It's as if it's an accepted fact that it's the club's fault and all they are doing is agreeing with each other. Disappointing

Aye. Much more balanced on What the Falk. Graham was clearly gutted Alex had gone and felt the club possibly hadn’t done enough but Brad was in the F@&k Alex Neil camp

Yeah, it's a more honest pod - what I mean by that is Graham speaks from the heart (as do the other lads) whereas WMS is a tad more polished and (IMHO) they voice opinions based on how they think people will react rather than just being honest/passionate etc. Like I say, I like both pods, but WTF feels more real - the post Wembley one Graham did sat on the train was brilliant, you could just hear the elation and exhaustion in his voice. That's the sort of content I'm after

He has nervous about how that train podcast might go down but it was perfectly in tune with the weekend !

Nick Barnes, the man who’d prefer to have paid £20 million for the squad we have now rather than get them for peanuts, aye, he seems well worth listening to <doh>

He comes across as quite arrogant in his views - as if we should all agree with him because he works for BBC
