Massive fee for a Tribunal. Even more so for a player as useless and inexperiened as Gobern. Howmuch did we get for Best and Crainey? pretty sure Crainey was a lesser amount.

Hudderfield's website says it was Nigel Adkins and Les Reed representing Saints. Well done to them two!

    Harsh.
I would have loved him to have stayed with us. He was just starting to come out of his shell under Adkins.

Time will tell but i think he is a good young player.

Adkins was angry at Gobern leaving. Think he felt let down, so must assume he saw a future for him at Saints, hence the contract offer.

Hudders don't really rate him. "runs round like a headless chicken" one comment i've heard as well as "he always looks like he's goingto get sent off". glad we got ridas I thought the same things about him. Always got a little nervous when he came on.

I would imagine it is more than Huddersfield expected to pay - I think he will be an average championship player at best.

Don't all players tend to do that in midfield when they are new and trying to create an impression. It is true though he is trying to build and impression as the "mid field hard man" Looking at him reminds me very much of the Norman Hunters/Nobby Stiles of this world. He will need to simmer down to make it even at League one level........

I believe that because he is under 21 the tribunal panel take into account our investment in his development as an academy player and we are recompensed for that investment (i believe that typically gets valued at 100-150k), if we successfully argued the injury rehabilitation was an additional cost then that would have been added also (doctors and physio costs - not cheap!).

The add on clauses would be to give Saints additional compensation should he turn out to be a good player as measured either by appearances or sell on value.

So the fees stack up we have hardly ripped Hudds off, I think we have got a reasonable return based on the investment we have made in producing a professional player.

I have to say i didn't expect that much, always think tribunals under value players anyway
I thought it was a shame when he decided to go but when its the players choice I don't miss them
And with only 5 subs allowed now he wouldn't get much game time anyway
