roscafre, there are all sorts of reasons why someone doesn't move to the Premier League earlier, and goalkeepers mature late - we all think of Stockdale as a promising young goalkeeper, but he's only 1 year younger than Somogyi. I wouldn't dismiss him on the grounds that he hasn't moved over here before now.
Also, we've had comments before along the lines of 'a coach at Motspur Park told me that...' which haven't come true. I'm not saying you're wrong, but even an apparent inside line like this doesn't make it necessarily so. Back in January we heard a whisper from the training ground that the club was in for Charlie Austin of Swindon, and nothing happened there, then he moved to Burnley. We'll wait and see.
Robespierre, you're right. The priority should be holding on to Stockdale, even if that means letting Schwarzer go. If Schwarzer has recovered from his injury in time for the start of the league season, our European commitments would mean that dividing the goalkeepers between Schwarzer for the league and Stockdale for the cups, at least until Christmas, would actually give both of them a similar amount of game time and might satisfy professional pride/ambition/ego for all concerned.
