Signing Somogyi, a 27yr old Hungarian 2nd Division goalkeeper ?

    Strange
Why give Schwarzer match practice if he is leaving ?
Why send Stockdale out to a rival Premier team ? unless for 6 months only to Leeds to give him match practice with a recall clause. (But I doubt any team would take him then).
Conflicting Reports of Jol sending Stockdale out on Loan ?
Why not send Somogyi out on loan to see if he can step up from Hungarian 2nd Division ?

The signing only makes sense if Schwarzer is leaving, Stockdale is to be first choice with Somogyi as an untried back-up. giving confidence to Stockdale that he is going to be No1.

Is it case of In Jol We Must Trust ;)

I think it is, SBM. Or perhaps the long-term view is that Schwarzer leaves, Stocky steps up with Etheridge as his understudy and Somogyi as a reserve? I don't know, we can only speculate :)

If he's only signed for a single year, then he's not Number 1.
Either 1) backup to Skippy whilst Stocky gets a years Prem experience at Swansea or 2) Temporary stopgap prior to complete change.

We prefer 1)..........but a lot of keepers seem to be in the frame.

Whilst we have focussed on fullbacks and a long-term replacement for Danny, A good keeper is so important. Lack of a good enough keeper relegated Hull and Blackpool, in my opinion - I think it's also been important in Sunderland's performance compared to their spend. Gordon and Mignolet have both been problematic through either injury or form. Even Wigan, not the biggest spenders, have placed most of their transfer budget on Al Habsi (wisely I think.

Stockdale will be allowed to depart on loan as Martin Jol has already recruited a back-up shot-stopper in the shape of Hungarian keeper Csaba Somogyi. The 26-year-old's move on a free transfer from Budapest outfit Rakospalotai EAC was confirmed by Segers after Saturday's friendly against AFC Wimbledon.
    Looks like we got him

Stockdale wants to go to Swansea on loan. Fulham had rejected a £3m bid from them to buy him.

I think we should loan him to a championship side. As many have said would be ironic if he plays so well for Swansea to get Fulham into a battle with them. (Want to believe that this will not be the case, but nobody knows!)

You do know all signs are pointing to him coming to us on loan? It's been all over twitter for a good while. Even his wife has said she wants him to come here!

I can well believe that. Once we knocked Swansea back and said that we were looking for a championship side (so we can include a clause giving us the right to recall him at 24 hours notice), Leeds seemed like the most likely candidates.

He'll do well for you. I've seen reports stating that Stockdale wants first team football, but not that he is actively looking for a permanent move. I think a loan to Leeds is going to be the best thing for all parties: you get an excellent keeper for a season, he gets first team football, we get him back next season with more experience under his belt and ready to take over from Mark Schwarzer. If MS gets a serious injury in the meantime, Stocky can come back and play in the Premier League with us.

My first choice would have been to find a way to keep Schwarzer and Stockdale at the club and happy, but both of them want first team football. This is a good solution. The only problem from a Fulham perspective might be if Leeds get promoted and Stockdale, being a Yorkshire boy, decides that he'd rather have Premier League football with them than Premier League football with us. He might be told to lump it if he does - does anyone know how long he's got on his contract?

My, my she didn't waste time getting the rolling pin out. And David a Tyke. Bang goes your rep Simon.

The bottom line is Jol's comment, "The club comes first". What a terrier.
