Off to a jazz club's 25th birthday party tonight, special guest John Etheridge. Some older posters might remember him from Soft Machine days, he's a real class guitarist, and much more accessible now than he was back in the early 70's music-wise.
Aye The trains one was from last year My bad…as the young uns say. They’re doing the same this year though
I'm also going to this. My sister lives in Glasgow, so going up for the full weekend. From what I've seen, Frank Carter is doing a decent job on vocals for the Pistols.
I saw Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes at the Engine Shed in Lincoln a few years back - great show and you're right, a great frontman.
He's turned into a grumpy old man and in some instances become the things he once hated. His recent comments about Kneecap are a prime example. Though I think when it comes to the Sex Pistols he's just bitter that PiL will never gain the same level of notoriety. I know PiL are successful, but put it this way - the day John Lydon dies, all the news outlets will focus on his time with the Sex Pistols more than anything else.
As someone from Hull said 'he's not so punk rock now'. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
He'll always be remembered for the Pistols, but I saw a clip of an interview with him recently, where he said he made far more money from Country Life butter, than he did from the Pistols.
I don't think he's 'turned into' a grumpy old man...He's John Lydon being John Lydon and he's been swathed in controversy since day 1. He'll say things that rub people up the wrong way and the consequences don't concern him. He's a complex individual and at 69 years of age,I can't see that changing.
Oh there's no doubting he's happy to say things that will rub people up the wrong way, but he's gone from rubbing people up the wrong by being anti-establishment to now sitting on the side of the establishment. Pro-Trump and Pro-Farage, sitting on the sofa of Good Morning Britain talking to Ed Balls about how he doesn't like Kneecap because they have the audacity to say "naughty things" and do controversial things like display "**** Israel, free Palestine" on their stage at Coachella - coming from a man who was part of a band that was constantly embroiled in controversy - it's either hypocritical or he's become a grumpy old man.
