He was brought up a Catholic wasn’t he? And went to a RC primary and secondary iirc?
His Dad's Catholic but him and his brother aren't. He went to a CofE primary, St Michaels, and should have followed his brother to Bowring Comp. but went to Cardinal Heenan for the football on the recommendation of his teacher who's husband was PE teacher at Cardinal Heenan.

I thought St Michaels was a RC school?

Not that I follow football in Scotland, but Gerrard has won stuff for Liverpool and Rodgers hasn't.

I hope Rangers make up the massive gulf and overhaul Celtic.

No it was CofE. May have changed it's name because there's no Bowring Comp. now either.

St Michaels is an infant and junior school, the kids from there usually go on to what was Seel Rd Comp, now Lord Derby Academy in Huyton.
Gerrard's dad is a Catholic as was his mum and dad and the rest of his close family, his grandad's sister married into the Gilhooley family who lost little John Paul at Hillsborough, I see John Paul's dad every now and again in The Irish Centre when the big Celtic games are on, he won't be going to Ibrox to wish his nephew well trust me, he'll probably do it over the phone so he doesn't have to go up there.<laugh>

Not too sure about all the negativity, I think he's in a fairly safe position.

If he's half decent he'll finish 2nd, especially if he takes some good youngsters with him. He's not expected to win the SPL with Celtic so far ahead, that's impossible at the moment.

He'll gain experience at a club, and if he happens to win a cup along the way he'll be a hero.

In 12-18 months he'll officially have 'managerial experience' and might get a move he wants...

The issue is he has to finish 2nd. But it's such a **** league, I don't think that'll be too hard.

It's a fairly safe calculated move imo.

Reactions: Milk not bear jizz
Dave(the conman)King at Gerrard's unveiling.

"The board is delighted with Steven's appointment," adds King.

"The Rangers chairman says they are looking at ways of narrowing the funding gap on Premiership champions Celtic."

The way to narrow it is to hire an extremely rich and naive manager and ask him for a loan to buy his own transfer targets.

They're skint.<laugh>

That Knowsley Comp.? If so it merged with Bowring Comp. the school Paul went to. I don't know the Knowsley schools like I do the Liverpool schools. Is St Mick's now Huyton with Roby CofE?

Yeah, They demolished Bowring Comp which was relatively new, that was built to replace Huyton Modern Sec Mod(which became Knowsley College), the school we called Seel Road was actually called Huyton Hey Sec Mod but as you say it became Knowsley Comp and went on to become The Lord Derby Academy.
A bit confusing isn't it.<laugh>

Just a tad <laugh>

I just found a picture 'Gerrard goes back to his old school' and it is Huyton with Roby CofE.

Pleased for him.

Big job that is, won't be easy.

Will be following him closely.

Carra as assistant?!

Think he would have been better off going into Championship or League 1. Far better step than the crap that is the Scottish leagues, let alone Rangers
