I lived in California for two years and not in LA, or Hell A, as the locals call it, but a nice part of the central coast, halfway between LA and SF. Two years was enough. I was glad to get back to some proper weather.

And it's a little-known fact that the Scottish west coast is on the gulf stream. Up in Sutherland there are some spectacular deserted beaches.
