His dad and his paternal grandparents are RC, I knew his dad back when we were kids on the Bluebell Estate his dad and siblings went to St Augustine's RC school, my nan and grandad lived in the flats there, there was a C of E junior school a short distance from Stevie's house and I know he went there before Cardinal Heenan.
No doubt all that was looked into before the Rangers approach.

Their fans are also doing their homework on Gary Mac.

Him and his brother Paul went to St Michael's CofE Primary School. Paul went on to Bowring Comp. and he should have followed him but he was that good at football that his teacher said he should go to Cardinal Heenan where her husband was the PE teacher. He said he was outside the catchment area and not Catholic but they took him based on how good he was at football and they had a great team.. It also meant he was eligible for Liverpool Boys rather than Knowsley Boys and the Liverpool and Everton scouts were regularly at Liverpool Boys games.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers admits Steven Gerrard will be shown no mercy if he takes Rangers job

Rangers job is poisoned chalice and could finish Steven Gerrard off before management career has really started - Chris Sutton

all I see is worried Celtic heads.

that all those articles mean to me.

Well you're seeing things mito, give one good reason for them to worry?

Gerrard might have the star name but hasn't got the star credentials bin management to go with it, Rangers are skint and have lesser quality players than Celtic and the hoops have an annual stream of CL/EL money to sustain their position.
Rangers II could just as easily go bust like the oldco as things stand, but Celtic don't have that worry either.

cos Celtic are hollow and do t want a challenge.

tbh I totally and utterly agree with you. rangers have no money and a rubbish team.

.

If you truly understand football in old firm terms you'll realise that was just the way oldco Rangers liked it, and with the help of Rangers minded officials and Rangers minded Scottish FA members Celtic struggled to challenge, but Rangers were given the ok to sign high quality players through their rule breaking EBT letter scheme, and it rightly came back to bite them in the bollocks seeing the club disbanded and the new outfit starting out in the bottom league.
So after years of facing the establishment backed side on unfair terms I'm sure Celtic will relish ruling the roost and looking down on the Hogan outfit, and safe in the knowledge they're not cheating to sustain their position at the top.:emoticon-0100-smile

none of that changes Gerrard moving there as a hiding to nothing

If he’s stupid enough to go into that job, then fair enough.

He’s always gone across as a dumb twat so this wouldn’t surprise me.

3-0 at ht, and it could be 6 (probably will be by the final whistle). FFS Stevie, think again: as someone has posted, if they can turn against McCoist, it'll not take long before they'll turn on a Scouse Catholic.

with respect they didn't really turn on mccoist. he got sick and tried of them cutting resources once he got them to scottish championship level and told them he was resigning in protest but then agreed to stay 12 months after pressure then they turned round and gardening leaved him.

if theats turning on him fine.

but in reality they were out of cash and he was a mouth

I dont claim to know much about scottish football, and for all i know the rangers board may be prepared to give Gerrard the finances needed to seriously compeete with celtic.

But it is a risky, and in my opinion, bad move for Gerrard. No improvement on rangers' current position as celtic's whipping boys will be considered as a failure for rangers fans regardless of his inexperience, and you only have to look at today's match threads to see the unrealistic (but understandable) expectations that rangers fans have. This will undoubtably make or break Gerrard's career as a managet.

His version of it here.

Q: What will your CV state from your time at Rangers?
A: Top of the CV would be “can handle management under stressful situations”. That would be up there in bold print. That would be all I could say, really. It has been very difficult. Everybody will have their own opinions, and are entitled to them, but it is not just as clear cut. There have been a lot of differing and varying factors that have affected my management and that would affect anybody else’s management.

well he only started the job when the whole thing exploded and was expected to walk but didn't and they had to manage in shoe string with a major crunch a time or two so.... well he tried to walk and was begged not to and something happened after agreeing not to that ended it.

in the end.... not quite a turning on...

but the point still stands Gerrard would want his head examined to take that job. he's allowed himself to be cozied up to and pictured with them so he's now in a no win situation.

reject it and he looks unwilling to take a big job. take it and success criteria are near impossible.

mind you it's only rodgers isn't it.

People forget the galvanising effect having a genuine legend of football in charge could have on the players, in my opinion.

Not saying he's going to be a success but sometimes a manager doesn't have to be a genius tactician like Benitez or Capello to succeed.

Zidane has had more success at R.Madrid than Ancelotti, Mourinho etc. and there's no way he is in the same league as them tactically.

Do Rangers really need a big finance injection? They've not got to have eleven better players than Celtic, they need a team that can consistently beat the other ten teams in the league.

He's an absolute moron if he takes this job, for many reasons, but today has just shown one of the major ones under a bright spotlight

Yes they do.

It's a meat grinder up there. If you beat all other sides and take it back to just Celtic and Celtic kick the **** out of you you still lose.

They wont accept a cup either they want the league

Celtic have dembele.... rsngers have grame dorrans... that says it all.

Thry are saying rangers can loan in half of off youths as well... see ejaria at sunderland or Randall up there for why this is stupid.
