So ego lol...there was a time that league was a stepping stone...now it's pasture

yeah... it's easier plump for a job say at Sunderland where his name might fill the ground and the parachute payments are not all gone.

But you can't risk the new owners there.

Really it's either a long job building somewhere or work your way up into klopp s inner circle if he will let you in... not a jump to top of queue and realise 3 months in its a bit harder than you thoughr.

Personally ... I think he's all ego.... now in a manager that can be good.... as long as your players believe your ****e and you actually know how to coach.

Surely he has far too little of the latter

No win situation going there. He's not good enough a manager (I would argue no one is) to compensate for the gulf in class between theirs and Celtic's players and he won't get the money to bring them close. At best, he'll endlessly finish second and win zero trophies and who'll be happy with that? Apart from Celtic, all the teams are dogmuck so he's not going to learn much being in the league either.

He'd be far better off staying with us and learning under Klopp for a few more years, even if he goes elsewhere and doesn't take over us, no rush to get into a big team.

Yesterday should have been a wake up call to Gerrard, his prospective new club got their arses well and truly kicked and it's not the first time this current season.
The only way he'd make difference is to purchase better players but if he(which he no doubt has)checks up on the boardroom situation there he'll see Dave King(jailed financial shyster)at the helm making pie in the sky promises of financial investment to their deluded followers who always lap it up and wonder why they're where they are in current terms, Rangers can't compete with Celtic on or off the pitch and Gerrard will be like a lamb to the slaughter up there if he thinks he can compete based purely on his experience.

It's a win whatever happens for Gerrard. If he gets constant second with a minimal budget, he'll get the experience of working on a budget. It's only Rangers, so it's not like Gary Neville taking over a top Spanish club. Expectations outside of the Gers fans will be much lower.

With today's breaking news about Buvac maybe Gerrard could act as Klopp's assistant for the next 4 games <whistle> Valuable experience for him, zero risk and a little taste of big time management. Don't think he's ready yet for a managers job.

For all his attributes as a player it doesn't mean Gerrard is going to make a good manager ... worth bearing in mind

Good thinking, Phil Neville was Man Utd number two under Giggs for 4 games at OT, and he ended up England manager.<whistle>

I dont claim to know much about scottish football, and for all i know the rangers board may be prepared to give Gerrard the finances needed to seriously compeete with celtic.

But it is a risky, and in my opinion, bad move for Gerrard. No improvement on rangers' current position as celtic's whipping boys will be considered as a failure for rangers fans regardless of his inexperience, and you only have to look at today's match threads to see the unrealistic (but understandable) expectations that rangers fans have. This will undoubtably make or break Gerrard's career as a managet.

I would probably argue the contrary.

Nobody expects Rangers to win the league or even come close. There is very little pressure.

Obviously Gerrard was chosen instead of someone local because Gerrard's accent is more comprehensible than Glasweigan.

Interesting.

Gerrard has very little managerial experience and to then take on a club like Rangers, starved of success and money with their rival stomping all over them every year.

That is a very hard job although the lack of money may mean expectations are lower but nobody likes a rival beating you every year.

From a Rangers point of view they'll get increased publicity but It's a big gamble for them in terms of the right appointment.

Why would they want him in managerial terms?

Maybe they simply have a hunch it will work out.

I'd love to see Stevie kicking on as a manager.
