Well he did choose to leave all that to go to the other extreme of being managed by Graeme Souness and playing alongside Amdy Faye and Lee Clark, which didn't help either. He was never that great for us anyway, brilliant sometimes, but patchy a lot of the other time and injured loads.we kinda ruined him to be honest, we signed him at his peak with Charlton, and he was thrown in to a squad where Lampard and Makalele were the midfield pairing, and he was never going to usurp either of them in the starting XI, was he.
We did the same with Shaun Wright Phillips, like he was ever going to displace Arjen Robben, Damien Duff or Joe Cole.
Mind you, they knew the score when they signed, so it was on them
