Here's a proposal, people can only own 2 homes (home and holiday home) and foreign nationals have to receive special dispensation to own a second home here (decisions based on local area, how many homes are second homes and if the local area is becoming unaffordable for locals).

Now that Boris and his cronies have gone that's possible.

He happily allowed Russians and Arabs to mop up endless London properties ...

... not to mention a football club in the NE <laugh>

Here's the thing, when we talk about the ultra-rich, most people think of Rhys-Mogg types, but I've seen the top-10 list and let me tell you, it's way more international than people think.

Well if you leave inter continental partnerships that becomes easier. Less places to hide when you collaborate.

I wasn't a Brexiteer.

I have to say lads these responses are a bit odd. We're talking about the ultra wealthy, and how Boris allowed Arabs and Ruskies to buy up large amounts of property, so we're on the same page, I suggest that the ultra wealthy are very international perhaps more than the average person realises, at this point it becomes a problem? Weird.

I’m not saying you were. The point that the EU went to tighten up the laws on tax avoidance was the time the Tories and the wealthy Eton boy Farage leapt on Brexit. The Tories wanted the wealthy to come but the incentive was that they pay less here, presumably so they’d invest, possibly in their party I’m not sure, but it’s definitely not helped the rest of us.

TBH I'd think most people know the situation.

It's not always a problem if wealthy people come here and bring jobs or investment.

The mega wealthy buying mega expensive property doesn't worry me particularly.

I do think there should be more regulations on property ordinary people can afford ...

... having landlords buy up swathes of property isn't always a good thing imo.

I'm not a class warrior, I do not think material conditions define who we are and how we should view the world, though they are obviously real and fairness of living standards between our people should be in the interest of the government.

I would outright ban property conglomerates, as I said - I fail to see why someone would need to own more than 2 properties, especially people who are actually Indian or Israeli by citizenship (to use the examples on the rich list), not because I hate the rich but because the country is becoming dangerously unbalanced in terms of wealth distribution and it's completely normal to want the country to put us first.

edit::

If we're going to be fvcked by billionaires, I'd rather tbe fvcked by someone who has a stake here in terms of culture and heritage, perhaps even a sense of obligation, rather than someone who can run off home with the cash when things get tough.

What problem would me, for example, being allowed to only own 2 homes solve?
