If the policy-makers were technocrats, appointed for their expertise, rather than their adherence to one party, and those policies were voted on by people who were elected only to represent their constituents, then the electorate could forget about the party system and choose individuals who are the best advocates for their constituents and their concerns.
 
I get what you’re saying. I agree Turkeys won’t vote for Christmas.

I was thinking that you could go half way. Double the size of the constituencies and have 350 local representatives and 300 PR ones. May give voice to the millions who don’t have one at present.
I may be a mile wrong but I am sure this is similar in principle to the German voting system.

People, in the media, keep highlighting the FPTP results and trying to say what they'd be with PR ...

... forgetting that people would probably vote in an entirely different way if that were the case.

Having met a few technocrats I can assure you there are as many b ll sh tt rs among them. Bull baffles brains is a well known and wise saying based on experience.
