Well said that man yes of course build the club but if you have the chance to win, give it 100% We gave our best at the FA Cup no complaints there but Europe, well I went to Slovakia spending £500, I certainly don't regret that, I'll cherish the experience forever. But the sour taste remains we should have gone further..
Not that we should have gone further as such. We should have done more. It should have been taken seriously. I'll bet we'll field a stronger side in the league cup at the hawthorns than we did in Belgium.
I was disappointed that we went out of Europe but to be fair to Steve Bruce, he did play a stronger 11 the other night and had every right to assume that would have been enough to see off Lokeren. On the night it turned out not to be but he has to do what he feels is in the best interest of the club and clearly that is finishing as high as we can in the Premier League. Hudd looked out on his feet at the end of last Sunday's game and it's unlikely he would have been effective on Thursday, had he played from the start and certainly wouldn't have been come tomorrow if he had played the other night. Those are the kind of decisions that have to be made to ensure we do everything we can to stay in the PL and try to finish as high as we can. That way we can continue to bring in extra revenue to fund the purchase of better players and build a more successful team to continue our quest for gradual but consistent improvement.
You can still be appreciative of how far we've come and what we've achieved, while also being disappointed that we made nine changes in Lokeren and it cost us the group stage. Personally, I think it was a mistake as we're unlikely to get there again any time soon and as this is a Hull City forum, I'll say so, but it doesn't mean I'm incapable of also seeing the bigger picture and appreciating the other things that are happening. Though I find the £2-3m investment in the academy far more impressive than any £10m signing.
I think a lot of people are missing the - well my - point here. We got into Europe on a ridiculous ruling that no longer exists and I think we'll struggle to ever get into Europe again. We've thrown away a gift by playing the reserves away at a very, very poor team and it seems like a wasted opportunity to me. Being a football fan is about being a dreamer, not a pragmatist, and I dont care about banking money by finishing 4th bottom the the premier league again. I care about seeing my club facing new, glamourous teams we have never faced before in some of the world's iconic stadia. It's an adventure, a dream, it's exciting and in much more of a way than another trip to the Britannia or Boleyn Ground will ever be.
Most of them are not "glamourous" though. For those few "European giants" that have ended up in the competition, they have done so because they had a crap season (by their standards) last year. Like Bruce, the bigger teams would put out their second team for the group stages because they will concentrating in succeeding in their domestic leagues to get back into the Champions League next year. In reality, if we had never qualified for it, few of us would be watching any of these matches on tv this season because everyone knows it's a mickey mouse competition.
This attitude if you slag the manager off you're not appreciated of the where we have come from is a load of bollocks and is quite boring. We haven't finished outside top half of Championship since 2006/07 season. We had a massive chance of qualification and blow it by picking a second string side. We have played a strong side, put the game to bed and rested players for the return leg. We may never get another opportunity again. I understand that Bruce has to look after himself and club. But it's a myth that teams get relagated playing in Europe. It's only ever happened once in the Premier League era. Swansea did alright last season. It's great being in the Premier League, but it's boring aiming for 17th every year.

I would like to add that when we had money available, like we seem to have today, we did rather better than those wet Wednesday nights against the likes of Halifax Town. During the 1960's and part of the 70's we had one of the best free scoring forward lines of any division, we missed promotion to the 1st Div on goal difference, or average, and due to the lack of signing better defenders to add to the prolific scoring forward line we suffered. We took Chelsea to the brink during the FA Cup, and Stoke City, both teams fielding many international players. Yes the current Hull City are doing and have done brilliant but lets not forget that today, as it was all those years ago, it is the amount of money we have to spend for improvements and of course TV revenues were minimal back in those b&w tv days. I for one spent many a happy day in a packed house on Bunkers Hill/South Stand as much as I did on a wet evening such was my love of football, so whilst much praise is lavished on todays Hull City the Hull City of the past gave this young lad, and later on young man, many happy, disappointed, frustrated, pitiful, and joyous moments to saviour as the wall to wall football of today.
I agree, although it is great that we did get into Europe, I wanna get there again! I think ppl we're just moaning, cos they weren't sure when we'd be back in. We got to the final of the FA Cup without a good striker on the pitch. imagine what we can do this season.
While I agree with you to some extent, I really hope Brucey isn't basing his strategy on trips to the Boleyn Ground in future seasons...
Never been there either. I avoid London like the plague. Think the only two grounds I've been to inside the m25 are the emirates and Selhurst park. Oh and vicarage road.
It is hard to not look back and think about the journey we have had. How many times have we been surprised at the steps forward that the club has taken? We marveled at the fact that we won at Wembley (the play offs), something that many believed would never happen, and then we did it again! We got relegated and many believed that that was it, two seasons in the PL and we had peaked and yet we are back. We played in Europe for the first time, will it really be the last time? I have that many bruises from pinching myself, it looks like a tattoo on my arm. Today I read an article where Tom Huddlestone talks about Dawson joining the club. Now I admire Tom as a player and even though I do not know him personally, I trust his words, I tend to believe him when he says that this is a club that is going places. He has nothing to gain by bigging up the club. We can now attract players to the club on merit. Am I bothered about the Europa League, yes just a bit, but in reality it is just one more step forward in the clubs development.
its because of where we have come from etc, which makes Thursday so frustrating! all the points of never dreaming of getting anywhere near europe, are exactly what make the contempt shown for europe even more bizarre.. who the Hell are Hull City to call europe a distraction we could do without? it should have been an honour and a privilege to compete in it, and one we should have grasped every oppurtunity to continue and enjoy every second that we could
I can understand your frustration, really, European football came a season too early as our squad is a bit too thin to launch an attack on 2 fronts... and we have to concentrate on BPL football until our squad gets a bit stronger. We will just have to win the FA Cup next time.
