Just because you don't care doesn't mean others shouldn't.

    We should have progressed.

We do indeed have the best team we've ever had & had we played that team on Thursday & the previous Thursday we may well have won.

Interesting you compare Lokeren to Arsenal....

I agree. Steve Bruce is definitely the best manager we've ever had, and this is the best Hull City team I've ever seen. I was disappointed that we went out, but the Premier League season will be brilliant and we have plenty to look forward to. Onwards and upwards for the Tigers!

I am as disappointed as anyone we went out of the Europa League but agree with the sentiments of this thread, for us to be in the Premier League etc is absolutely fantastic and far beyond the dreams of most of us just a few seasons back. I remember when we were in what is now leagues 1&2 and seeing glum and tearful faces in May when teams had been relegated from the top flight, I thought at the time how ridiculous they were and that i would give anything just to be in the Championship let alone be relegated from the Premier League.

So I agree lets keep our feet on the ground and be realistic, that's not to say that we don't want to win every game possible but just that any finish above 18th is a good result for the season.

Thank you for saying exactly what I've been thinking the past couple of days but struggled to put into words.

Of course I am disappointed we went out the Europa League so early but it's nothing more than that. It was always an unexpected luxurious bonus anyway. If we focus on cementing ourselves in the PL then hopefully we can progress to European football in future seasons when we may be better prepared. But we're still hardly an established PL side and we've seen how it can go tits-up at other clubs, (none more so than Portsmouth). Need to walk before we run.

Maybe European away travel was the new way to be a 'proper fan', away from the bandwagon-jumpers. Brucie took it away. Possible explanation for over-reaction.

I think some of the responses to my post make my point more eloquently than I did.

How many of you who don't care actually bothered making the trips to Slovakia and Belgium, out of curiosity?

Those 'fans' who aren't furious about going out are probably the ones who couldn't or simply couldn't be arsed to make the effort to follow the team.

What would you have said if he'd played the fringe players in the cup final? "At least we played in a cup final, more than we ever did a few years ago".

Some of the biggest drama queens are actually on the 'you aren't allowed to criticise' side, but isn't that often the case on sports forums?

There was little chance of me going to any European away games anyway unless we drew Inter Milan team which would give the missus an excuse to go to Italy again.

The reality is there will be "bigger" teams than Inter Milan visiting the KC stadium this season. Even though Lokeren finished 5th in their league, in their eyes they have done a giant killing act by progressing past us.
Yes, had we progressed to the group stages there was the potential to play a few european teams with some great history, but the reality is that most of those teams at the Group stages are the equivalent of Championship clubs with the equivalent of Championship players.

Hence the relatively small financial incentive in the competition in comparison with the proper European competition or the Premiership.

So except the 5% of City fans who can afford to take two days off work, plus the flights and hotel expenses etc for a piss-up, the rest of us would have turned up at the KC stadium possibly in a half-empty stadium once the novelty had worn off to watch a lower standard of opposition than we see at the weekend.

It's not a matter of being arsed. It would have been a significant financial investment for most.

We're all fans, just that some think they are better fans than others.

    In what way?

I read a lot of people suggesting they'd be happy with season after season of mid table mediocrity in the hope (some it's more of a presumption) that European Football will come again. The PL appears to be the be all & end all for some, for me it isn't. I rather we'd shown some commitment to the EL as well as the PL. We could have done both, it didn't need to be one or the other.

Your post to me smells of PL whorism, stay in the PL whatever the cost.

Nothing is guaranteed. We could just as well finish bottom as top ten, that's football. It's taken 110 years for us to reach a cup final & qualify for Europe. We should have made a serious commitment to getting through.

You're right playing Man Utd was a dream (maybe not Chelsea, they spent a lot of time in the 2nd Division) but it's no longer a dream. If you're happy dreaming for Man Utd & Chelsea every season then that's you sorted but don't get "****ing furious" because others have more ambitious dreams.

I cannot understand why you would not care that we were knocked out, it appears you actually hoped we would be. To me this makes you more negative than those you criticise in your opening post.

On a side note: How furious a face does a 70ish year old newly wed pull when he's "****ing furiously"

I care (selfishly) because I wanted to go but was unable to. I would have managed some of the group games.

Obviously, it would also mean the club progressing rather than achieving & then stagnating in mid table mediocrity.

    John,

    Actually no!!

I have just come back from a cruise to Norway and was expecting a few, "well we gave it a go" type posts. I simply feel that this year I have the privilege of being a Hull City supporter. Complaining seems so petty.

On another note, Bergen fish market was a joy.

This will also happen when consistent mid table mediocrity has been achieved.

I disagree. Why does everyone **** themselves stupid about transfers? Because there is a chance that we might buy someone who is more skillful than we already have.
More skillful = Better quality of football to watch

Yes most of us would still go if we weren't in the Premier League but all fans crave success (promotion etc) to see their team progress to a higher level.

Winning a cup where the final struggles to get on channel 5 tells you something about the importance of winning that cup.
