When Short was trying to sell up didn't he leave all the leg work to Martin Bain? I'm sure Donald said that it was Bain who he primarily dealt with throughout the takeover process and that he barely spoke to Short. Maybe Donald has brought Rodwell in to deal with the potential buyers as a middle man? Given the way Donald goes on it's probably better to have a buffer between him and FPP. I'm probably way off the mark but it's just a thought

Certainly is an odd appointment. However we do need some reasonably capable to run the club regardless of who owns it and I can’t see many top people being willing to drop down to the 3rd tier. So he could be simply the best available to us at this moment in time.

That may be a good shout, Bain was indeed brought in with an aim to make the club sellable and to ultimately solve it.

The CEO appointment is really, really unlikely to be anything to do with FPP.

If it was at FPP's behest, it's one of the more... left-field appointments you could imagine a group of US businessmen who don't know football demanding. They wouldn't know him, he doesn't have particularly notable achievements, and he brings no name value that a group like FPP would want and be able to finance. If you appoint a CEO to run your affairs, it is very much based on trust and there is really very little chance that FPP somehow demanded this guy be the man at the tiller, not in such a critical role anyway.

I believe that it is Donald appointing a relatively low-cost CEO to run us for the forseeable future and to help us to get out of L1 with Donald as owner and no commitment that any new owners would need to absorb as part of a deal to buy the club, whether now or later. I think that it is Donald serving notice that he intends to see his plan through and get us promoted, go back to FPP and see if he can coax them into a more concrete involvement with us where they take equity and pump money in with him effectively still Chairman.

Well if he is a Donald appointment, and I’ll be surprised if he isn’t, I can only hope that he is able to stand up to him and make the right decisions.
As we have already seen, with Donald employing his mates in crucial and influential positions, he has effectively made us a League 1 team for the foreseeable future.

He is nowhere near a FPP appointment, as you say. He is more like an SD one, cheap, never heard of, friend of a friend. But the crux of it is, I look for every little crumb of comfort and you just come along and piss on my bread, sensible or not

It is feasible that they asked Donald to select someone at an appropriate pay grade for this level, they ran the rule over him and were happy with the appointment. Not likely but not impossible either.

I would say the liabilities he has tied up in SAFC make it far more catastrophic to him if he loses us for no compensation and loses control of the debt between Madrox and SAFC in the process. It only needs a creditor to not be paid and FPP can theoretically take control of Madrox, the majority share in the club and by the language of the charge, recover the £20m+ debt from his other group companies and those of Methven and Sartori that ultimately would leave him personally insolvent if he couldn't pay.

I don't know what kind of arrangement he has with his insurance business (can you shed any light?) but I doubt he has much if any liability if it goes tits up, not that it should in the current situation. He's willingly accepted these conditions to be a big shot football chairman, but the risk there looks huge from the paperwork that's publicly available.

Donald's situation was clear and simple.

• Take on a massive club that had stumbled into the 3rd division with players capable of competing in the Championship.
• Appoint a manager able to win promotion by whichever means.
• Sell the club.

That would bring a huge profit, loads of excitement and the credibility to buy another club.

It all went wrong and Donald is bouncing around like a pinball hoping that he lands in the jackpot ...

Backtracking somewhat, but still on this same thread. I know the O'Brien family from years back and they are all staunch red and white, home and away supporters and they have been for donkeys years.

Am sure the low state that our beloved club finds itself in will be hurting them similar to how it does to us. The sale of one side of the business to Biffa will have given them a fair bit of cash to potentially play with (obviously not FPP levels) and getting these fellas onboard would be a good idea, hopefully the Academy appontment is a stepping stone to further.

Yeah probably a very unlikely scenario in fairness, you're right. Upon reflection, I'm not sure the charge documents would allow them to go that far unless Donald had been willfully negligent.
