Awful the echo like
It is shocking, I've made the mistake of twice clicking the link to their site and it's an absolute mess. Even after you've disabled the cookies and you go to the story the page jumps up and down at random and it's virtually impossible to read the story which turns out to be made up crap or something they've nicked off Twitter or some other ****e.
I used to buy the Echo 20 years ago now I refuse to click on their crap.

I think that's because they really want to buy the club mate.

Giving Donald money, when he's under pressure, is how loan sharks operate ...

... they know you'll waste some of it and end up even deeper in the shyte than you were.

There's certainly no love lost between them and they really disliked Methven.

I like the Yanks more already..
I thought Methven as a PR man would have been an ideal foil for Donald but he’s anything but.
Hope we get this over the line this time.

Kevin Phillips
Kevin Phillips is confident that a Sunderland takeover will happen, saying that owner Stewart Donald is a 'man of his word'.

The club owner and chairman released a statement last month saying that he was actively looking to sell the club following a backlash from supporters, and new reports this week have suggested that there are two parties in serious discussions to buy the club, with Donald believed to be asking for £35 million up front and a further £5 million if the club are promoted to the Championship this season.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips, who has had the opportunity to speak with Donald, and was considered for the manager's job before Phil Parkinson's appointment "They are business people, they are not going to give it away,” Phillips told Football Insider.“He made it clear that he is talking to people, and I expect something to happen."

"From what I know about the man, he is a man of his word, and if he is talking to potential buyers, for the football club moving forward, it can only benefit them.

“I am sure that there are people out there that would love to have a chance of owning Sunderland AFC.

“They know that the infrastructure is there. Yes, they are not in the league where most potential buyers would want, but the fans are there and the facilities are second to none. It is just whether you can get out of the league this season.”

WHAT THURSDAY'S FPP TAKEOVER NEWS REALLY MEANS FOR SUNDERLAND

Donald has been in discussions with potential investors since before the end of last season, but claimed that it was not his intention to walk away altogether. He told BBC newcastle that he had turned down a good offer to sell the club outright because he preferred to stay at the club and was instead seeking investment.

In the end, he could only secure a loan from FPP Sunderland - a group of three US investors who had initially looked into buying the club but keeping Donald and co. in their current positions to run the club on a day-to-day basis.

The inside story of how Phil Parkinson turned it around at Sunderland to win Manager of the Month

When new manager Phil Parkinson struggled for form early into his reign, leading to the club falling to a record-low 15th position in League One, a joint-statement from supporters' groups in the aftermath of the Boxing Day draw with Bolton brought about Donald's decision to sell outright.

Phillips says that Donald deserves credit for sticking to his word that he would leave the club the moment that he felt he was no longer wanted.

Phillips continued: “First and foremost, it was clear from the outset what he wanted when he came in. He has never had the money that the billionaires have. It was clear in that he wanted promotion and then he would have looked to sell for a profit.

“He gave it a great try and backed Jack Ross. Funds were available but it never quite came off.

“Credit to the chairman as well, the supporters vented their frustrations and wanted him out and he went.”

When I asked that question I was laughed at mate.

As the chap pointed out Dell had previously agreed to buy Newcastle and are actively looking to be involved in the UK the way they are in the US. They know Ellis Short to a degree as well.

So they could easily find their way to England, and the SOL, without the help of a pumped up salesman like Methven.

Is this a fact, can you prove it...sorry like its just there is so much spin talked at the moment its hard to know what too believe.

It's a fact about Methven, one of his friends told me in a pub at the Lincoln match. Methven was there and I spoke to him briefly but he sidled off when my questions rattled him. I'd set the meeting up and told people about it on here, before the game.

As for Dell and Newcastle, I posted that well before it came out in the press, but it has now been reported.

Methven, as I was told, made it known that he'd announce that Ashley had used the fake Sheikh to bump the price up with Dell, who then walked. That didn't go down with FPP as it was at the height of their takeover negotiations.

If it's true, it's just another example of Methven's big mouthed pig headed arrogance.

Ah right, well in that case I reckon it's OK for me to say why the FPP deal stalled.

After the deal was agreed Donald asked for a further £5 million for promotion and another £10 million for going up to the PL.

If you don't appreciate this post, Mr Donald, you can sue me ....

So now SD is turning the figures around. Instead of wanting an extra £5m and looking like a greedy git
He (and only him) has valued the club at £40m and is trying to look like the good guy by knocking £5m off
Smacks of CM spin to me.

May be wish full thinking but wonder if they have caved in to FPP and are now on a face saving exercise

So if the club is worth £35M in League 1 and £10M of that would go to FFP. That would have the club valued at £25M, so would FFP just need to pay £15M for the club as they’re owed £10M? Or is me brain addled?

After the relentless flak I've taken, and am still taking daily on RTG, I should really stop putting my neck on the block.

After all it's been declared, time and again, that the FPP takeover is dead and not responding to CPR. At which point the totally predictable pretend Sunderland supporters have raced to say they were right all along and I was wrong. Jardine, despite rarely posting, was all over the board posting his endless smilies.

So yes, I should've learned my lesson and crept off in abject humiliation ...

... but here we go again <laugh>

I've just come off the phone from the chap who's told me for months 'don't panic they're still here' ...

... and he's just said 'don't panic they're still here'!

I should've learned my lesson by now and spared my blushes but I know there are decent people who'll appreciate me throwing myself on the barbed wire.

Smug you are a top man cheers

Too many lads know me from the games to **** people about mate ...

... the people who always attack me never go to the games so aren't risking a clout.

After so many people declaring this deal definitively dead I'd be excused for keeping my head down ...

..f**k them, if I end up being wrong I'll live with it.

Really hope this is correct. Cheers for sticking you’re neck out time and again despite the grief you get when things change.

As for Jardine. Don’t let him get to you, like I said he’s a massive wind up merchant. He’s a relatively decent bloke in real life(winds up people exactly the same!)

SD is a man of his word and his word is Bollocks - whenever he opens his mouth he talks bollocks!

As for SKP, I think his brain must be severely impacted by all the ingrowing hairs from his scalp which have now grown through his head and are sprouting all over his jaws!
