Im going for Ball because of how much of a fantastic captain he was for us, I also needed cover at CB.
I hope i havent missed anybody out, im on my 4th beer so my memory is abit vague.

Pickford

Kubicki. Bould Ball. Gray

Malbranque Henderson Schwartz Sess

Phillips. Defoe

Bench. Johnstone, Reyna, Hutchinson, craddock, sorenson, quinn, goodman

Alonso and mvilla would of had a shout if I was including loanees.

No Quinn? Thats a big call mate, he was arguably the reason Phillips was so good. Respect to you for being honest though mate, thats what we want to see on here.

Aye, I agree with that. It was a coin toss between quinn and defoe to be honest. Both legends in their own right. B£nt was mint too but I couldn't bring myself to even put him on the bench for reasons. Likewise Lee Cl**k.

We've had some top quality players through the doors over last 25 years. Makes the current situation even harder to swallow.

It does mate. Chris Waddle even crossed my mind at one point.
A club of our stature should never be going into year 3 in the 3rd division. Its humiliating and soul destroying

For me the first decisions were partnerships
(where the sum is greater than the parts). Up front is the easiest Quinny & SKP.
At back I’ve gone for Watson & Pitt. The rest are just personal choices and on another day they could be swapped out according to my mood.
Oh snd one vital position also sways the other choices - that is captain. This has to be Bally for me.
So :-
Monty.
Ces Irwin. Pitt. Watson. M. Gray
Bally.
Hutch Johnson
Sess
Quinn. Phillps
subs <doh> can I have 15 please.

I picked Phillips and Defoe for my team on (I think) your 5 a side thread but I'm not sure how well it would work on a full size pitch. Not many teams play two small strikers but I could see it working if the chemistry was there.

You are lucky mate I can’t even swallow.

Whilst I agree with teams from the different generations surely a subs place at least would need to be found for Summerbee or Johnstone during the Quinn n Phillips reign. Not saying they were the best players but must have contributed at least 75% in assists for their goals.

Here's mine . . . . that's a solid back five, a strong central midfield with guile either side of them, and the most potent front two that we've ever had :emoticon-0105-wink:

..................Pickford.............
Makin.......Craddock.......Watson........Bolton
Summerbee...Ball...Hutchinson.....Tueart
................Quinn....Phillips............…

Subs: Tommy, Mickey Gray, Thome, Hoolioooo, Rowell, Magic, Defoe

Considering that the OP asked for the 'best SAFC team in my lifetime, it has to be the '64 promotion team - not the best players in each position BUT I think they would have (collectively) wiped the floor with any SAFC team since (including the '73 side).

Montgomery.

Irwin, Ashurst.

Harvey, Hurley, McNab.

Usher, Herd, Sharkey, Crossan, Mulhall
