Never knew SKP handed in transfer requests at you guys? But you're right about his value, teams getting relegated should not be allowed to dictate to premier league buyers, although they are entitled to reject bids if their valuation isn't met.
All Wolves players had an agreement in their contract that their pay would be slashed 50% in the event of relegation. I think he's done well to hang on this long before handing it in.

Relegated teams have every right to dictate terms, why should the bigger teams get there star players on the cheap.
I agree if it was us that got relegated, but not if we want a relegated teams player.
but, quite honestly, they are not PL standard anymore, they have taking a wage cut (usually) they are Championship players, and their value should reflect that.
Its the risk you take im afraid when you buy them in the first place.
The Phillips sale was to cut the wage bill down but he did go for 'peanuts' and that was due to being relegated.

Can our Chairman/Manager afford to walk away on this one? He's been our main target. We seem to have difficulty in finding a striker so if this falls through where else do we go.
I know it's a risk, but I think MON should say "right, we get Fletcher at OUR price, or we take a gamble on a foreign striker." You have a scouting system, you will almost definitely have some foreign players you have watched, I just don't think you want to take the risk on them at the moment. But in my opinion, better to take a risk on them than pay over the odds for a "proven" PL striker, who has a record tally of 12, and is still not GUARANTEED to work out. I reckon he's a good striker, for 6-8million, but when you're going up to 12, you have a great chance of finding an absolute pearler abroad.

To walk away from the primary (seemingly only) major target, a week pre-season, is suicidal.
Perhaps, maybe it is now too late to move on, you may be right. But your scouts do have a job to do, and they will have people in mind who they BELIEVE can make it in the prem, I always feel it's better to take that risk than pay stupidly over the odds. Especially since if the risk pays off, you are likely to get a much better player with a greater sell on value.
I agree with your point, just think it's too late.
I hope we are still looking at another striker, as we need 2, but I honestly think Fletch is a great fit for us, no ****ing about, straight in team, do a good job.

Exactly its too late to be taking risks now, we need someone who can hit the ground running.
Maybe Fletcher + a guy for less than 5m from abroad could be a decent combination, but your board should stop ****ing about now to be honest, too close to the season, either you want him enough to pay the dosh, or you don't so you need to move on and pronto.
Fletcher is more a realistic target for us, he should find the area suited to him considering his Scottish root's.
A foreign player, though perhaps affordable and on our list of possibilities will perhaps without a doubt, not fancy a move, simply because of the area.
And yes your valuation of 6-8 million seems more realistic when you consider they got relegated.

Even if he signs tomorrow, he won't be fully integrated into the squad by next Saturday, although again, being English based this is less of an issue.

You would think so. Even if he is a 12m player as some have argued, the fact he now plays in a lower division should mean he is available for less, logically.
Sod's law would suggest you will sign him for 12 million and he will do his ligaments first game for yous, out for the season
