Yeah mate I agree but the fact he was happy when we list 8 has caused a bit of hassle .
He's convinced that he isn't plastic coz they spent time in League 1 .
I said why not support Mansfield then .

Well then your problem is with ****s acting like ****s - understandable. It’s nothing to do with how they chose which club to support in the first place.

I suspect that if you lived and worked in Hull, you'd grasp why people are saying what they're saying about locals choosing a team that they think gives them reflected glory, and being very abusive towards City.

You are conflating two separate things. You even put a comma in your sentence to prove the point.

I'm not, and it doesn't, but I'm not getting dragged in any further as I think my point is clear and I doubt we're going to agree.

If George Harrison had not got a winner it would have been a full house. My Sweet Lord indeed

Try buying a house in North London compared to Peterborough which is an hour away. It's likely some of them will have moved out of London. United and Liverpool fans coming from London however....

The point doesn't have to be explained or proved on a local club forum, surely we can all see the absurdity of arm chair supporting/wearing merchandise of clubs from hundreds of miles away from your home town/city which you have no connection with or ever visit apart from seeking reflected glory from them? I fail to see why this doesn't annoy you?

I fail to see why someone’s actions in their own home annoys you!

If supporters of other clubs are being mouthy and overly celebratory, they should be called out. Where they were born or live is irrelevant though.

I’ve met fans of many many clubs on my travels over the years - some have been utter dickheads, some have been sound - some support the club local to where they were born, some don’t. There has been, in my judgement, no relationship between those two features. And if that somehow doesn’t also apply to people in Hull I’d be amazed, it’s inconceivable.

It can be quite amusing to watch the reaction when you tell the FC shirt wearing, wendy ball hating, '****ty City' Liverpool fan that you 'support' St Helens. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Think the difference is those fans didn’t choose Rochdale or Gillingham etc they chose a high profile successful team as if it gave them some kind of credibility etc
I grew up in the 60’s / 70’s and Leeds were grabbed by some , then Liverpool and Man Utd , we hated Leeds as they were just 50 miles away.
Personally I think you get more credit supporting your local team whatever the division or because of family ties than taking the easy option to pick the ‘best’ and then boast about it as if you are superior . I’ve put up with so much sh** from non City fans like we do from critics of this City , that’s what makes me belligerent , unaccepting of these fly by nights , they’d be gone in a flash if their ‘team’ floundered for some time …
and besides i’m a ‘super fan’!!

I think it is tougher these days to catch youngsters, as they are brought up watching on TV the likes of Liverpool etc. But Acun idea of U10's is a good one, I started going to City when I was 9 (just with a couple of friends no parents, how times have changed) that was 1957. I started to go because the club gave schools a number of passes that got you in for half price, which I think was 6d. That got a lot of us going and most are still going.

I always found it interesting when in Manchester I was asked whether I supported City or United and answered Hull City. Many people were incredulous and asked why. I always answered "because I was born there" and usually added "well you can't accuse me of being a glory hunter" I always received total agreement to that.

    Is it **** irrelevant.
Bad enough not supporting your local team. Far worse choosing another 'big' team from a place far away that you have absolutely no link to and then having a dislike, even going as far for some as taking the piss out of your local team - that to me is unforgivable and is what really gets to me. At least wish the best for your local team, have them as a 2nd team, have a soft spot for them.
It's tribal, it's about affinity to and pride in your local area.
As if anyone even needs to explain this

Those that choose a big team, 'celebrate' a trophy because it justifies their choice, and they feel they gain reflected glory.

That experience is totally hollow, and pales to nothing when compared to the joy of the club you've connections to winning promotion from the bottom tier.
