Do you know many happy Celts? Most of them seem a touch miserable most of the time. Don't forget that he's Scotch and they have a collective inferiority complex where England is concerned which is why they must make excuses for failure.

I wanted to kick the TV screen in when he accused us of time wasting. What utter b*llocks! We're probably one of the only teams who don't time waste when holding a slender lead.

Fergie moaning about Fergie time, really is irony at its best though isn't it?

no "winner" enjoys losing but there is nothing to stop a "winner" being gracious about losing. You can find "winners" aplenty in every sport who are gracious in defeat.
Ferguson is a cretin

You nearly kicked the TV!, I wanted to kick Defoe for NOT time-wasting, was there some magnetic field repelling Spurs players to Utd's corner flags in that last 10mins???

3 times he could have done that, but chose to take their CB's on, lost possession, all for another bloody shot! <doh>

This is why I call JD one of the thickest players with no football brain...at all! <grr>

We got away with it, but that really isn't the point.

<laugh> Surely you cannot be serious. Warnock the man who complains about everything. You do mention him in another post as a manager who isnt gracious in defeat along with Fat Sam so maybe you really were joking <laugh>

Or I forgot to proofread when I copies and pasted the previous bit. I might go back and fix it now...

Finally find me a winner who enjoys losing.

It's not about enjoying it when they lose, it's about his failure to accept it like an adult for quarter of a century.

Moyes doesn't throw his toys out of his pram when Everton lose (unlike Ferguson, Dalglish, Strachan et al)

Im glad he doesnt accept it. Hes won 48 trophies in his managerial career by not accepting defeat.

He doesn't have to accept or settle for it but being gracious in defeat should be a given for someone of his stature and age. He's not 5 years old.

Well done Spurs. Great win.

Mancs cr@pping on about not getting 3 penalties as well as Fergie and added time. <doh>

Attention to dodgy penalties last week may have had something to do with United not getting one this week. Its definately on the ref's mind and he knows attention was firmly fixed on his performance, tell me a lot of you were not waiting for the statutory penalty late on? <laugh>

Good to see Spurs follow through against United, well done AVB <ok> he broke the jinx. Of course it would be a shame if ye go and lose next week after that :)

SAF can be very gracious in defeat, but he wasn't on Saturday. He was clearly frustrated- probably with himself for a) having to play Rio who is now a liability b) not signing a midfield "enforcer" since Keane left and c) not playing Rooney from the start.

Petulance is not a virtue- nobody is suggesting that it is- but it is a trait that many "winners" have. At 70, he has mellowed (a little), but he detests losing. If he was any less passionate, he wouldn't still be the driving force he is. When he comes to doing what he thinks is best for the club, he can be incredibly one-eyed, selfish, beligerent and insensitive. As a person though, giving so much of his time to others as he does, despite all his commitments, he is kind, loyal, sensitive and polite. The conundrum with SAF is that discipline and good manners are virtues he expects in himself and others.

I don't know why you are banging on about this. He showed very poor sportsmanship after the game and Utd fans should be embarrassed about his petulence rather than drawing attentiom to it by making excuses. Redknapp was always class after a loss (AVB's only had one so far, so can't compare <cheers>) and that was a trait I liked, even though you could see how much it hurt to lose.

Ferguson did what he always does.
He distracted from his players failing to win a game, he gave the media something else to talk about and he put pressure on the match officials for any future trips to Old Trafford.
If he was really pissed off, then we'd have seen Phelan spouting platitudes and Old Red Nose would've been blasting the **** out of his squad in the dressing room.
Cold, calculated and as predictable as Wenger doing something bizarre and amusing when Arsenal lose.

As for Redknapp taking losses well, he often took them too well.
When he lost to Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge and both of their goals were as a result of poor decisions by the officials, he acted like it was no big deal.
We then go on to get a load more **** decisions go against us, because refs knew that their mistakes wouldn't be highlighted.
I'm not saying it's deliberate choice on their behalf, but if one manager's going to drag you across the coals and one's going to put his arm round you and say, "Everyone makes mistakes, son. Triffic", then which one will you risk putting out?

wtf is wenger doing there? And people say avb is strange on the touchline. That's utterly nuts. Once he's done with football - Strictly?

I don't think I can be any clearer in what I said. I said he wasn't gracious on Saturday and I haven't made excuses for him. He is what he is and like many people, the strengths in his character and personality can also be weaknesses.

To be fair, I did miss your first sentence <ok>. However saying it is a winners trait and it was because he detests losing sound like excuses to me, but I do accept your comment was fuller than I'd appreciated.

Im glad he doesnt accept it. Hes won 48 trophies in his managerial career by not accepting defeat.

Valeriy Lobanovskyi won 30 trophies, and he never threw his toys out of the pram when Dynamo Kyiv lost a game.
Fabio Capello won 16 trophies in his career, and he's never thrown his toys out of the pram when he lost.
Marcello Lippi has won 13 trophies and a World Cup in his career, and he's never thrown his toys out of the pram when he lost.

Sam Allardyce has only won the League of Ireland and the Third Division, but he throws the toys out of his pram and makes wild accusations about opposition players and officials when he loses.

In short, Ferguson's attitude is more in line with a habitual loser than it is of a habitual winner.

I would say Fergie has won all those trophies by buying up everyones top players.I often wondered where United got all the money........They also had/have some of the dirtiest players. In some cases making the Revie Leeds teams look like choir boys.

Where did they get the money? Sky owned nearly 10% of the club and gave them a ton of favourable coverage, fueling their own asset.
The M&M Commission put a block on a takeover in 1999 and they sold up in 2003, but the damage had already been done.
