I can’t believe his payout makes as much of a dent as that. Managers don’t get paid as much as you might think, especially relative to their players, unless they are superstar brands like Guardiola etc. I would be surprised if Farke was on more than £750k per year - still a massive amount by normal standards, but that means the payout would be maximum around £2.5m and more likely Webber negotiated a smaller termination payment for performance failures than the full amount outstanding on his four year contract. All in all I wouldn’t think that completely prevents transfer business in January.
My guess is that the compensation will be paid in installments so that it can be balanced against installments coming in for players we've sold. In any case, provision will have been made in the budget.
Spooky https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwich-city/why-norwich-city-should-consider-woman-as-manager-8475108 Why Norwich City should consider appointing a woman as their new manager
As probably the most high profile managers in the WSL, I'd like her to have a chance to show what she can do in the Men's game. It'd be interesting to see what she would consider an appropriate club for her. She might well believe she is capable of managing a Men's team in qualifying for Europe, but I don't think any would take the gamble. She probably needs a Championship team with little risk of relegation, but for whom promotion would be a massive success. Pinkun believe NCFC are in advanced talks with a managerial candidate, with a view to an announcement this weekend.
I would also love to see that experiment with a woman manager. Just not us in an already near impossible task where tens of millions of pounds are at stake.
If Lampard were to be appointed he would be the first manager to have a higher net worth than the owners of the club they are managing
Yeah I saw that, although I am a bit sceptical: if Newcastle are worth £300m, you would think Norwich is worth at least £100m. And as Delia and Michael are majority shareholders, their wealth should include their portion of Norwich…
I'm edging towards the idea it will be Lampard. Look at it from Webber's standpoint. 1) a) He gets Knutsen and we stay up: Webber is a genius. b) He gets Knutsen and we go down: Webber is great at Champs level but can't cut it in the Prem. What's he doing taking risks like that when Lampard was available? 2) a) He gets Lampard and we stay up: Webber is a genius for attracting Lampard. b) He gets Lampard and we go down: Webber got Frank Lampard to manage us: what more could we ask for? It's not his fault if Farke left Lampard in an impossible position. If Webber really wants Knutsen (or perhaps a different continental manager who no one is even talking about), will he have the strength of his convictions and take the gamble? It would be a very brave man who did
I was thinking that way as well, Gozo. The press would be far less scathing if we go down with Lampard in charge. On the other hand, Frank would be taking a big risk with his reputation that a relegation could be added to his CV. Smith would be more likely to stick it out and seek promotion again. Just out of curiousity is anybody checking Flight Radar for flights from Norway?
I'd say the answer is pretty clearly "Yes". Have you seen any evidence to the contrary? And if it is Lampard, I'd say that the reason will be that Webber is convinced Frank's the right choice, nothing to do with looking over his shoulder etc.
Seeing this described as the "stumbling block of all stumbling blocks" and "currently unbreakable" by someone claiming to have insider knowledge. I guess if we get to Monday without a solid indication, this will look increasing accurate.
The Athletic think there's a chance Gerrard is announced as Villa boss by the weekend. Another name to cross off. I know we don't have the cash to pay whatever a club demands, but it would be a bit annoying if Villa have everything ready well in advance of their next league game, and we struggle to.
Gerrard was a good player, but his only management experience is in the SPL with Rangers. I'd far rather have a manager with PL experience like Lampard or Smith, either of whom would suit our current situation. That's why I less keen about Knutsen.
What matters is getting someone with the right profile in light of the club's very different circumstances from 2017 and the new objective of "top 17". What we've heard about this so far is "experienced, but modern and forward-thinking" (which latter I take to refer to further off-field development as well as style of play). How much experience and what sort of experience? Top tier certainly, EPL preferably. Lampard and Smith both fit but there's also the mystery "third name". As long as the chosen one fits the profile, he/she will have my support -- unless or until they set off down a path which forfeits it.
For one of the most ardent critics of everything Norwich city , it's no surprise that you don't have an opinion or preference for Farke's replacement.
