I think if anyone is to blame for that goal, it's Gibson, Normann or Dowell. Gibson is marking space in front of Mbeumo, rather than being goalside of him. So Omobamidele goes over to mark Mbeumo. That leaves Toney free on the penalty spot, so Aarons picks him up. That leaves Henry in acres of space to score. Either Gibson should have been goal side of Mbeumo so Omobamidele doesn't go over, Normann should have dropped back to mark Toney, or Dowell should have been tracking Henry.
Collective communication failure, Krul should maybe have done better, by either jumping and getting something on it or by realising he isn’t getting to it and resetting his position on the line. Maybe as an outward viewing player he could have communicated that someone was at back post
Agreed, I also thought Krul could have done a bit better if he had judged the flight of the ball better (but he had such a brilliant game otherwise, he doesn't really deserve criticism as he saved at least three certain goals...)
On the other hand, the Telegraph thinks it's between Lampard and Smith: https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/canaries-ncfc-frank-lampard-dean-smith-linked-8472056
Yes, I've seen that quoted elsewhere. Knutsen would be a big risk for SW given his lack of PL experience. There was also the MFW article claiming that Lampard has not been interviewed by SW, but that depends on when that was written. Meanwhile, Smith has only just crept into the latest SkyBet odds so the situation is still quite obscure as the odds drop off very rapidly after those three. There's also the possibility that these claims lack any factual support.
Dean Smith is comfortably my first choice, but I’ll support whoever (even John Terry, if we are mad enough to appoint him).
I'm also inclined to Smith for his experience in gaining promotion, surviving by the slimmest of margins then moving up to 11th the following season. Leeds hit a bad run of 5 losses, but that happens in the PL. They were mad to sack him after all he's done and he could be a good fit for us. Just to stay open minded though, here's the case for Knutsen: https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...il-knudsen-head-coach-stale-solbakken-8473334
I don’t think you can put any value in the odds, a couple of decent bets put down on a name swing the odds massively
Dissapointing that no women or bame candidates are being put forward. I thought that as a club and board we were more inclusive than this .
I'm surprised a Rooney rule doesn't exist yet in the UK. Just a requirement to give an interview to someone considered a diverse candidate, and give themselves an opportunity to impress at interview, with no requirement for anything more. I'd be really curious to see how Emma Hayes (Chelsea WFC manager for the last decade) would get on in the mens' game.
Looks like Webber will be signing a rolling deal, securing his future and meaning a club who want him will have to pay compensation.
Trying to sieve through all of the rumours, it would seem that there could now be three candidates, with Dean Smith coming into the frame after Mike Bailey's two man list claim. It's always possible that there's a dark horse nobody but SW knows about. I'm tending to lean towards Smith now because SW thinks long term and wants more than just a coach. I think he gets gets dismissed as promoting not tactically advanced football, whereas he actually did a pretty amazing job at Villa and had them playing exceptional football at times. I’d also argue that without Dean Smith, Brentford certainly wouldn’t be in the PL this season. He bought them on leaps and bounds when he was manager there, and set in place a lot of the ideals that they still follow. If those ideals coincide with SW's, then he could well be the choice. The question is whether either Lampard or Knutsen would stay on if we're relegated. I think Smith would
