Interesting meeting. AN are doing a proper write-up I think but here's a few thoughts. We spent almost 5 hours talking about various stuff and were really well looked after with food and drink etc. which was unexpected but nice. Most of the content discussed was quite pleasing. I got the impression they are going to start doing some serious marketing. The badge was explained as being a by-product of the uncertainty surrounding the name at the time the kit was commissioned rather than an Allam dummy spit about not being able to change the name. I suggested that this being the case, the 'new' badge shouldn't necessarily be permanent and that we should have the name back on it once we actually have a long-term name, James didn't disagree with that.

A guy from the council who heads up the SAG (the group who make decisions about safety in the ground) was there and explained some issues about segregation and safe standing in the future. Apparently the KC isn't equipped to increase the capacity through safe standing (which theoretically gives you 50% more capacity in areas where its fitted) because it's already at it's limits in terms of people per exit and getting people out in an emergency. In other words the club/SMC would make a loss by installing safe standing at the KC if and when it does become possible by law. This guy wasn't some jobsworth, he was interested in getting more people in the ground but is held back by regulations etc from elsewhere. Particularly in relation to getting people out quickly in the case of the KC.

There was also the guy who looks after all the catering on the concourses there. His staff served loads of food which is to be on the concourses next year and it was a lot better than stadium food usually is with a decent range of stuff, more than just the usual hot dog burger etc. I know this is a minor issue and no concern of mine really but it will interest some. Or just Tickler.

I made Chazz's suggestion about a 'Yorkshire Cup' sort of thing in pre-season and it was confirmed that this is actually something the club have already considered for the future.

Season pass sales are a lot better than I expected. We're about 900 short of last season's total apparently, but James was keen to stress this isn't a conclusive total figure as they're still expecting more.

Regarding the seat move, the away end is dynamic so for the smaller followings we can have the full North stand. The Ulltras have arranged for most if not all of their lot to be close together in N2 I believe, so hopefully my concern that the move could kill the atmosphere won't happen. James has made efforts to work with groups who currently sit near each other and wanted to stay together so that they can continue to do so. CTWD, AN, OSC, Ulltras, Away Direct were all represented.

The elephant in the room was of course the name change which was tentatively discussed but we obviously couldn't get much info about it without the owners present. I suggested that for this group to work we need to be able to discuss what is the biggest issue for most fans as part of it, and that it'd be good to get Ehab there so we can get some understanding between club and fans on where we're actually going now. Because as nice as it is to be able to discuss ticketing and marketing, it pales into insignificance for many people compared to the name change and the stance the club has taken with confrontational statements etc to actually oppose its own fans.

It was definitely useful, and I feel better about some things than before. James staying back til 11pm on a Friday night to talk to the fans was most appreciated. I've probably missed half of what was said but as I said before AN will do a more coherent write-up.

There's nothing new in ANY of that, but it still begs the question of how the group was formed or how it will progress. Seems pretty much a room full of the usual unrepresentative faces.

He's also wrong about groups being given the opportunity to sit together, as the timing and system simply didn't allow it, and yes, it was asked of the Club.

All in all, it sounds as expected, the club explaining why things are fine and we'll all have jam tomorrow, rather than a meaningful dialogue on how things can be improved.

They don't seem to accept fans are unhappy, so see no need to look for why, just to consider unhappy fans as 'moaners'. That, is piss poor marketing.

I was very surprised to see that I got invited to the Fans Working Group even though I am an expat, anti-name change, and had never submitted my name to be part of the group. Admittedly, I had made a suggestion to James Mooney a few weeks back about making the home European Qualifying rounds free to all season ticket holders but that was the extent of it. Maybe they just wanted some foreign representation! As far as I can see the attempt to set up a Fans Working Group is laudable and I applaud the effort to involve overseas fans.

I'm totally in favour of a fans working group, but that isn't what we've got yet.

The kit (including badge) had to be confirmed by Feb 1st and we didn't know the name of the team then. That is of course the club's fault only, but that was the reason given for the badge change.

OLM also got a mention. There was some quite detailed discussion about trademarking of the badge and its components between James and a guy with professional experience of that sort of thing, but I thought it was funny that the club held back from applying for a particular trademark for the badge because they knew OLM would find the application and post it everywhere <laugh>

How does that fit in with our kit and sponsor only being unveiled last week ?

Cheers PLT, I'll keep an eye out for the AN report.

Sounds like you quite enjoyed it, and got more out of it than you expected. Good to hear about the marketing, and the Ulltra's seem happy enough too.

So no nodding dogs, no cover up, no patting you on the head, JM isn't the devil, no token gestures, no chaos and you had constructive discussions and Aggron is still a whiney bitch seeking attention by bleating about stuff he knows nowt about.

Seriously, this is a first step in a positive direction and of course, he has to nitpick and make up crap. Good job he doesn't need the club to do his marketing for him eh?

I assume you'll be eager to go to the next one too?

Anyhoo, thanks, knowing your stance on stuff normally, this was a refreshing read, and I appreciate your honesty and candour.

Bitched the attention-seeker whinily, descending as usual into his comfort zone of name-calling and insults.

It doesn't fit with the fact that the badge has been due to change for ages, but they didn't see fit to ask fans opinions, just present a fait accompli. The OLM comment's just an easy hit to deflect issues. It's an admission they didn't want any debate.

"This is what we've decided- now tell us how you feel about it, then we can demonstrate we 'consult' fans to the likes of the PL and FA"

What i meant was how can our club ( or any club ) submit their kit for the following season in February ? When did we do the deal to change from Adidas to Umbro for example ?

January I believe.

I already knew JM quite well, so I'm well aware he isn't the antichrist.

The format is such that there will be the same meeting with different people a few more times, so that everyone who put their name forward can be seen, then there'll be follow-up meetings with less people (I think) going forward. If I'm invited to be part of that then I'll definitely want to be there yes.

The sponsor is being stuck on by the club shop after the kits reach us, I think it was done too late to be printed on by Umbro.

I have to admit I didn't understand that part of the discussion fully, but I think James was just talking about not applying for some kind of trademark at a certain time, the badge itself wasn't actually delayed for that reason I don't think.

Great that season ticket sales are doing good .

That's quite a posative post you did PLT

( for a change ). Keep it up

:-)

keep telling the club not one person Prefers Hull Tigers to HULL CITY despite the **** poll they did

Most important thing for me is cheap tickets for young people even free if need be its vital we get the next generation hooked on supporting the club

Ps

OT

Still hoping Mr Kempton will go-to watch City with his dad

Really sad if you don't because you will lose the future memories of days at the footy with your dad. Special times Mr Kempton .

How can the club give tickets out free mate when we are going to sell out!! Its a shame people cant afford to go but thats life, cruel as it is. So if we extended the stadium we should give thousands of tickets for a quid or nowt?? No business can afford to do that, build 10000 extension and give em away for free!!

The good news is we have obviously gained loads of new fans as season pass holders cos Dutch knows thousand and thousands who havent renewed and walked away. So they're waiting in the wings if we ever get new owners <ok>

That's worse than your usual piss poor bait. If you want to debate what I've put, that's fine, but snide attempts at twisting things just shows you've other issues and no real argument.

Give it up, it's boring.

Very interesting piece you did about what happened at the group PLT and thank you for taking the time to type it out to let others know.

However we do it I just think it's important that we get the next generation into following Hull City

Maybe I live in the past but I'm not sure if groups of lads off the estates can afford to go like in our young days

Ee lad I use to come home with change in me pocket having gone out with half a crown pocket money .

Ps....if ticket sales are only down 900 at present that's great news .

No you're right, we talked about marketing for ages and James even had to politely ask me to give everyone else a chance to get a word in at one point cos I'd been banging on about the lack of marketing so much <laugh>

Cheap tickets won't do that, it will just attract glory supporters and day-trippers who are willing to take advantage of a good deal. Trust me, I know people in Hull who support teams like Man Utd and Liverpool, they use these special offers to satisfy their footballing needs. They don't give a f** about Hull City and just see it as cheap entertainment on a Satuday afternoon whilst they check the scores of their 'real teams' on their iPhones.

Marvelous, so when given the floor, what was his answer to his piss poor marketing?

Marvelous, so when given the floor, what was his answer to his piss poor marketing?

It was mentioned that not a lot has been spent on marketing in the past, but my understanding was that that amount has significantly increased now and we should see some effects of that soon. I gave some specific examples such as the signs around the perimeter of the ground still advertising the 'new' 13-14 home kit at the back end of last season, and various suggestions were made from all almost everyone there.

Really the key thing is whether progress is actually made, because the sounds were positive, but I've heard things like that before from Nick Thompson and even Pearson. This problem has been going on for far too long and progress never seems to be made on it no matter how much the problem is identified and discussed. Hopefully this time it will lead to progress.
