Great to see him back at the club and I hope it works out well for everyone.

I remember him scoring a goal against Birmingham City [Away] in 2005/06. It could have been his first for us?

I was in an unfamiliar South London pub watching it. I must have been travelling home from something at work and ended up in the first pub showing the game. We were challenging for Top 4 for the first time in years and years. I went mental when he scored and then found out how much the local Chelsea knuckle draggers didn't like me in their pub. There'd been a couple of things said up to that point but after he scored, the bar staff refused to serve me and then asked me to leave. Great memories.

    Cheers, Aaron.

    Happy Birthday, mate.

Many fond memories of Azza during his time,
and acknowledgement he was an important
part of the clubs' rise since 2005.

But for me, "Ooh pericolo" encapsulates in
10 seconds everything that Azza was about.

It's probably been mentioned a hundred times, but at 1:39 there's news of Bobby Soldado scoring for Valencia v Schalke.

Oh, Bobby......why were you so ****?

Spurs break Spanish strikers irreparably. :(
God knows how much worse Torres and Morata
would have been if Spurs had signed them
    instead of Chelsky.

Now, now. It is his birthday.

No, it was actually a measured finish into the bottom left corner of the net. I remember thinking...."This boy's got it all." He was 17 and I may have overestimated that a touch but he never gave less than 100% effort and played in our first CL campaign and in our last team to win something. He was a good player who might have become something a bit more.

While there's no denying Soldado's ability to score deserted him at Spurs, he was still able to contribute as he had the intelligence to play some key passes and managed to reinvent himself as a Sheringham-type striker at Villarreal. Janssen, on the other hand, doesn't appear to have the technique so his best hope is to reinvent himself as a target man - but the obvious issue is that Serie A is the only top league where that role is in demand these days, and the bigger clubs have the likes of Higuain, Mandzukic or Dzeko fulfilling that role so his best bet would be playing for an Atalanta, Sampdoria or Udinese in the hope for a move up the food chain a couple of seasons later.

Weren't Conn and Duncan out injured for most of that season? I think Jonah played a lot of it and I have recollections of seeing a fair bit of Ian Moores, too. I'm not entirely sure but Keith Osgood was top scorer with 6 goals for a major part of the season, wasn't he?

We went down bottom of the table with minimal fight from most. Still, the next season was a lot of fun and apart from Big Pat's departure, The Honey Monster and then Osgood and the increasingly injured Alfie Conn, we kept our best players the next season. Imagine keeping the likes of Stevie P, Glenn Hoddle and Peter Taylor after being relegated from the PL?

My memory is hazy - I was 12 at the time but they looked good for parts of this game. Although the defending to concede 2 late goals for 3 - 3 was awful. John Duncan was just coming back from injury in this game and looked way off but Conn and Taylor looked different class. Alfie was interviewed by your namesake after and was very pissed off with the club. Didn't hide his dislike of Terry Neil. And although he liked Burkinshaw was very unhappy being the sub all the time.
