He had the opportunity to follow Lee Bowyer to Birmingham, but chose to stay at Charlton as assistant to incoming Nigel Adkins. They finished last season strongly but got off to a dismal start this one, mainly due to having to gel in 18/19 new players. Adkins was then removed, a bit hastily imo although the fans had turned on him and as you say, Jackson has been given the job on a caretaker basis. Personally I think he was very fortunate to be given this opportunity, although in fairness he does seem to be making a good go of it so far. League 1 is a very very difficult division to get promoted from, more so this year with so many ‘big’ clubs in there.
"Former Spurs player Tomas Pekhart's penalty is saved. If he'd scored, Leicester would have stayed in the Europa League." - BBC live thread. How terrible.
A magnificent goal from his time at Bradford, which may have inspired The Fast Show... And possibly one of the worst songs of all time:
Ooh, that Chris Waddle eh. What did I say, Roy ?? Meh fef eff-eff, fef eff-eff fef eff-fef. I did NOT say "Diamond lights" , Roy !!!
Pav's still playing for anyone interested. He joined an amateur side last year called Znamya Noginsk and helped them to promotion to the third tier of Russian football at the age of 40. His stats so far? 31 goals and 9 assists in just 42 games for them. What a guy.
He has now been made manager. I still think they could and should have stuck with Nigel Adkins, but Jackson has done well with the opportunity that’s been given to him.
