Who would you have as our next Manager

If that's a good article then I'm a Dutchman. That article is based on outdated, outmoded thoughts of tradition and how many trophies make for size of club. If that were the case Liverpool would still be the biggest club in England, but we know that they lag a heck of a lot behind these days. Today it is buying power and as of last season that made Everton an also-ran. Now they have an owner with money and that makes them more powerful. But only because he chooses to spend it, because he's actually poorer than Saints owner, if one wants to be pedantic. So it's money, not tradition, which kind of rules out 90% of that article. And something called FFP is going to make their progress a lot slower than they think, as its rules attempt to keep the status quo. I suspect they'll find it might be harder than they think.

Here is a thought. Les has made his name with his ability to develop a scouting system and the famous black box. Every season he relishes the praise he receives for his success in finding a new manager and new players but what happens to Les if nobody leaves? He disappears off the radar. He is not important anymore. For Les to be valued we must lose players and our manager routinely. Is Les our problem? Does he jump up and down with joy when Wanyama says "I'm off" and Ron says "I want more money"? Is Les the megalomaniac who is destroying our club?

.. or is he the beating heart, the catalyst for success? All a matter of speculation.

Well someones doing something right - we didn't go from league 1 to the 6th best team in England for nothing!

Why is this the only forum (I don't look at many) that actually recognises Reed's importance to the club?
So many people, on other forums, seem to be hoping for things to go wrong, just so they can say "told you so" for their doom and gloom predictions, made when Cortese left, 2.5 years ago.

They're stupid. We're brilliant.

I don't think there are many like that. Is it on another thread or this one where someone says all we have needed since Cortese left was someone who could drive a hard bargain? Have they been asleep the past couple of years? We have driven harder bargains than even Cortese used to.

As for Les I think he is probably just as driven as Cortese and just as hard. I think if we lost him it would be much harder to replace him than we think.

In all honesty......How long would it take for people on here to be slamming Les if something didn't come off 100%? In truth seconds.....its human nature.
No one can deny he has done well. Putting him on too high a pedestal though is a little dangerous as we have found out with others. Just remember he too is human and has a family etc.
Outside of Saints he probably doesn't get a look in or even a mention as it is the manager that gets the praise for the transfers in, that make it good.
Who actually highlights the targets is it Just Les and his scouting colleagues, or a combination of all including the manager?
You only have to get a money man to realise how we have ascended through the leagues, who is shrewder than a few of the others. Then bingo, possibly, we will have a lot of unhappy fans. Again that is life as they say.
So while I am happy and content that he is doing his job and doing it well, I would argue, actually he is doing what he is paid for. That is what he is there for, that is his job. Long may he continue to do so.
Praise he will get from me, after the recent debacle though trust to pedestal level in anyone, will take a lot longer!!

Meh - you dream wrecker you :)

We need a hero! Les is our hero! (I nearly said we're holding out for a hero until the end of time) :)

I'm with FLT. Why do all the Everton fans seem to delight in rubbing salt in the wounds? They have less class than even Liverpool and Spurs.

Delete "all". I have a lot of blue-nosed fans who have expressed the view that they are concerned that such a quick bed-hopper won't be hanging around at Goodison, and like a lot of fans they are looking to make the "Wenger" appointment.

Two things. One, is that Evertonians are often an embittered lot. If we lived next door to a team with the apparent stellar reputation of Liverpool we would be too. Two, think about what we might be wishing for. Do we want a manager who will stay forever, or does a regular turn over bring in new ideas? Ask an Arsenal fan!

I wouldn't mind the first ten years the Arsenal fans go though :)

Wait a minute...Les has a life outside Saints<yikes> He never leaves the place or has a holiday. The Saints job means you can't turn your back for a minute....daughter's wedding, got to be joking...someone is trying to pinch Shane Long. No, Les is a celibate monk, worshipping at St Mary's.

I think I've figured out the delay. Ron is so ashamed by his own actions, that he wants to try and bury the unveiling, probably to coincide with the first full day of the euro's where other stories will take precedence. If he's really clever, he'll stay on that boat floating in the med till something really fancy happens like a meteorite strike on the planet or Charles becomes king.

Hope the thirty pieces make you happy Lying Dutchman.
