With all due respect mate, you've come in to this way beyond the eleventh hour. You're a Swansea fan, so I doubt that you've listened to every Saints press conference for the last 24 months and how many times the man said he will honour his contract. Scroll back a page or two and there is a quote from him in March saying he won't be one of those that goes for the money. He'd virtually agreed a deal and then came along a more than double your money deal.

Please don't come in here half cocked with info and try and tell us "that's what all fans say"

He left for the money!

And the opportunity to spunk £150m hopefully up the wall on crap players.

I don't think he is. I didn't criticise them but because if this "thing" it made it look like it was my quote moaning about them; it wasn't, it was AshbySaint who called them delusional. I find that quite incredible.

He has since carried that on after I checked with him it was his quote. He is saying that because MP, Toby and RK left after the board said things were progressing, that they are delusional. Ridiculous statement to make.

They're doing a bloody good job amongst all the dishonourables.

Right so how many out of MP, TA RK have we actually resigned when we were led to believe we're likely to sign? If they thought they would and told, but they didn't how is that delusional? Was it spin?
I am not criticising the board completely just wish I could believe them more about key individuals wanting to stay than go. Unfortunately they don't seem to want too.
I generally think everybody at SFC should be very proud of what they have achieved.

With all due respect how would a Swansea fan know anything at all about the plans of Southampton's board?

Swansea fans know everything. They were all on here in our first season back telling us how to stay in this division and how they had now settled remember? I don't think they know we aren't some club that has come from nowhere to join the elite. Someone tell them we were here for a few years before so we know how to stay in this league for...........erm............5 years.....WOW they've been here years.

I'm leaving this Ashby. I don't think it's a big deal. They thought they'd sign, they didn't.

I dont think the board can be called delusional. Every time they have put out a video/PR clip, I would imagine they either 100% believed a contract would materialise or were doing it to apply some external pressure. In either scenario, they knew what they were doing and were under no illusions.

It's not their fault if seemingly honourable people act like snakes.

Exactly!

By the way - I didn't call them delusional it was the way the posts came out oddly when I quoted Ashby. It made it look like his post was mine.

There is more to it than money. he was not happy about something to ditch Southampton and join Everton ....money means nothing to multi millionaires.....the job satisfaction and the ability to make the saints do what Leicester did with style was Koeman's ambition. He had that taken away from him......Money will not be the reason there is a lot more to it than that.....You could understand if a really big club come in for him but not Everton ffs

Personally, I think Koeman thought that money was nice, but not the master, and found that when sufficient was dangled in front of him that he leaned towards it being so.

However, someone did come up with a decent footballing reason. Koeman was at the end of 3 years and had either signed, or was about to sign an improved extension to that. He already was the best paid manager Saints had ever had. But his spectacular footballing gains were harder to achieve. Despite reaching Europe, there was a decent risk of having a poor season, with the extra heavy load. With Everton, there was a huge transfer fund and a whole lot of leeway to be had. A much easier prospect to make improvements, on the face of it. But we'll see how brilliant he is at getting the right players in, after saying goodbye to the best recruitment system in the Premier League. It isn't going to be as easy as he thinks. Still, there's always £6M per year to make him feel better. And the quick prospect of putting himself in line for his dreamed Barcelona job after a couple of years. He obviously reckons he's that good. There are several who think he's not upto it.

Not sure if this has been discussed already but I'm concerned about whether we have (and whether it is possible/legal) a clause that prevents RK / Everton from poaching our players for a period of time. The Mirror (yes I know!) are reporting that we have not managed to make this a condition. This wouldn't surprise me and if I'm honest can see Virgil jumping ship rather quickly....
