Same reason he went on holiday the first time when there was important business to be sorted out. Gives a team time to beat the offer in hand. If we were to panic and decide to match Everton's offer he would probably come back to us. I don't think we will do that, or at least I certainly hope we don't. But Koeman has nothing to lose. I would love nothing better than for Everton to suddenly change their mind and leave Koeman high and dry. But it seems very unlikely.
I bet they don't spend much less than £70m though. This talk of disagreement over the budget is either Koeman wanting silly money or a sidetrack because he didn't want to finalise the contract.
A friend of mine has just texted that he saw Ronald in the reception of a 5 star hotel, lying on a sofa. Well, he was just sat there. My mate just assumed that he was lying.....
I have been singing this all week. I just wish he would bugger off now. I want to get on with my life.
Depends where £70m comes from. If Everton's offering a budget of £100m, escalating if/when they sell Lukaku or Stones, from Koeman's perspective that ends up being quite a bit different than if we're spending £70m, but £60m+ of that is financed by player sales.
I agree . It would appear that Everton have said here is £100 million to spend . WE may be saying Here is £ X amount depending on who we can sell & what we get for them . Like it or not we ARE a selling club !
Not quite as easy as just spending it though. Replacing Lukaku and/or Stones will take a lot of effort, and that's not their only problem.
not a good way to start employment, they want to pay him 6 mil a year and he can not be arsed to get on a plane for a 2 hour meeting
I can't imagine what question you could ask when offered 6 million a year. What is there to discuss....unless the company car isn't good enough or there are insufficient luncheon vouchers.
Did I read somewhere that Koeman is sailing in the eastern Mediterranean? People smuggling to raise a few more quid, to pay for his next holiday?
Although I have moved on mentally, I still don't understand....why would Everton offer such top money for Koeman. They offered the kind of money that no treacherous person could resist. I can only assume they have their version of the black box (let's call it the blue box) which has told them that he is the one and no one else will do....so they went for the kill. Complete mystery.
Whether his agent told him or not he knew they wanted him within days of Martinez left and he said he was staying here. So they went to Emery as second choice who laughed at them and because the new boss has his own ego to comfort and a statement to send out they went in again big to get their first choice. A bit like when Man City paid (more than) twice what Sterling was worth just because they wanted to show how big they were.
