The squad for the start of this season is very similar to that of last season with not much happening in the transfer window, incomings or outgoings so there is a chance that some of their players such as Cabaye, Cisse or Ba will be 'found out' and struggle to repeat the form they showed last year. This along with the added implication of European football is likely to make last seasons heroics difficult to repeat. Having said that, they still have good enough players to beat us come 17th September therefore shouldn't be taken lightly.
In their last match against Aston Villa, Newcastle 6 shots on target compared to the oppositions 9 shots whereas Everton tore apart Aston Vila just a week before which could be a good indication of how both teams are performing, though they aren't extremely reliable pieces of information to go off.
Newcastle's stand out player thus far has been Hatem Ben Arfa who has scored 2 of Newcastle's 3 league goals this season whilst Cabaye and Cisse have amongst others had sluggish starts.
Everton
Let's just hope we can just push the last performance to the side and continue with the form we showed against Manchester United and Aston Villa. Firstly, it would be ignorant not to applaud the opposition who pressed well and created many chances with new signing Yacob commanding the midfield. However, we were extremely poor from back to front. Perhaps for the next game David Moyes will drop Marouane Fellaini back into the double pivot depending on the seriousness of Gibson's injury whilst moving Mirallas into the creative trio of midfield behind Jelavic.
I don't think the result will be a reflection on the future of our season though so there's no need for moods to be dampened yet even though it was poor performance as we know that the likes of Fellaini, Distin, Baines, Pienaar etc are unlikely to play any worse than that this season so surely things can only improve.
