The EU's rules on universal service providers go back well before 2008. These include postal services.

In a much earlier post MTG made a point about utilities/nationalisation. He appeared to be in favour of nationalised (universal service providers) utilities. It was pointed out then that Nationalisation falls foul of EU rules on competition. The Royal Mail was sold off because of the EU, and will not be re-nationalised because of the EU.
I don't think he really knows, what he's arguing about.

Ha I'll be avoiding Muse as they're at Benicassim (which I'm also going to... sorry), and not really a fan of Coldplay personally. Rather embarrassingly I'm looking forward to James and Catfish more so!
Where are you seeing CATB too?

They're at Glasto too, announced on the latest poster. They're also at Bristol Summer Series.

Yeah seeing them in Bristol at the end of this month, then going up to Manchester to see them at Castlefield, then down to Bournemouth in November. Did it say what stage they were on at Glastonbury? Can remember watching them last year and they packed out their set and it looked mental. Hopefully they get main stage.

Just a bit of a fan then! I saw them last year at Reading, really enjoyed it, they'll be playing the Other Stage at Glasto which is still enormous, but it's the 2nd biggest. I prefer that stage though in all honesty as it's slightly more intimate then the Pyramid, where you're miles away usually.

Apologies for sending this thread somewhat off the rails!

Yeah ****ing love them, easily the best UK band atm. No need to apologise, I'd rather talk about Catfish anyway <laugh>

When it comes down to immigration Cameron knocks himself out. When asked about how to control the numbers of European migrants, he evaded the question and spoke about the single market.
However any reasonable agreement with the Eu post Brexit would include freedom of movement and so leaving would not resolve the problem.

As with immigration population has to rise to support the elderly. Until baby boomers start dying it is healthy for the country to have its population increase gradually to sustain it.

If we had a birth rate of around 2 children per mother than the population would be increasing. We don't and so population increase comes from immigration.

This means that net immigration isn't a negative thing

A point you have failed to address consistently. The French and Germans will not being telling their populaces the British have left the EU so we will now cease trading worth billions to our economies ... Angela Merkel will not be saying no more BMW!!

It is reasonable to conclude the above becoming a reality is nil. Britain is one of the EU's biggest markets.

As a parallel can you identify a trade deal between a EU state and non EU state that includes freedom of movement? How about the EU and China?

The population of Britain is not rising gradually.

What is needed is a entirely different approach to social care. The current demand and pressure on services cannot be met, and uncontrolled migration simply adds more pressure.

Again points you have failed to acknowledge in this thread.

this is a very poor argument, uncontrolled immigration and some of the cultures that go with it are negatives .. Natural Brits have a tendency to have around 2 children per couple, there are other cultures that just don't stop at 2 or 3 and begin when they are much younger .. example 5 couples with an average of 5 children will need 30 jobs in 25 years time in 45 years time likely 140 jobs and do not forget pension age is now around 70 ! or will be in the future ....
with your argument on 2 per mother the population would increase at a very steady controlled rate as it did from the middleages till world war 1
from 1939 it was ticking along nicely, mortality went down as medicines improved, but it was controlled, from around the 80's it has exploded

I have not looked anything up and the population explosion may be correct but wrongly dated

Immigration has exploded in the last five years. According to one of Dodgy Daves cabinet the women MTG thinks is a bloke it is running at the rate of a million every three years. That is people staying. This is from the same party who in their manifesto pledged to get net immigration down to tens of thousands a year. Even Tories are calling it chaos. No wonder Cameron wouldn't talk about it last night.

Completely agree that we absolutely need immigrants but as has been said before, it has to be controlled. Yes the population would decrease without immigration but we can still have immigration in or out of the EU. Not only that, but if we are out of the EU it's not just free immigration, we can control the 'quality' (for want of a better term) of those who arrive.

Bloody Hell is this all factual...steam
ONE OF THE BEST POSTS ON THIS THREAD
I have been arguing most of them in my tet a tets the fish value is based loosely on weight..they don't count them, if they did ( hopefully not a future EU directive ) they would likely find it is a third of the total number caught ... around 12,000 fish per 20 tonnes caught
6 tonnes returned ave weight .5k == 12000 these fish are breeding stock for next season! multiply this by the weight actually landed ... mind boggling
