Quite interesting to think about this given it will probably have a big impact on the business we do this summer.

8 homegrown at English academies shouldn’t be an issue. At present we have Cirkin, Ballard, Rigg, O’Nien, Mundle and Moore. Would Mayenda count too? Obviously some of these we were expecting to leave in the summer, but perhaps this now changes things?

4 homegrown at the club is the one that might be problematic. Rigg obviously, maybe Mayenda counts too but not how sure his loan in Scotland affects that as it puts a break in his 3 years. After that we’re struggling.

Do you think there is any chance Neil or Patterson stay now as they could help meet the latter criteria for no/little cost?

I've noticed, this season, how we've had youg players on the bench who've not been used.

Presumably this is just part of their development but the club seem to constantly planning ahead ...

... perhaps this has been in their minds all along, fair play if that's the case.

Playing some of the fringe players will be needed if we want to maintain our PL form you'd imagine.

We have had a few travel with the first team squads who weren't on the bench as well. I'm hoping that qualification for Europe will help convince Geragusian to sign a new deal, I think he has the potential to save us a few quid in the long term.

We'll manage I imagine, though this might be a new problem to sort. Interesting mind.

I like to leave these head scratchers to those who can scratch!

Probably unlikely but I wonder if they’re thinking about Henderson on the cheap from Brentford.

He’d fill a slot and would probably jump at the chance, wouldn’t mind him as a bit of a rotation option and old head in the dressing room for a year.

If we do lose Roefs then possibly they look at Pickford too. Not really our style though given his age and the fee + wages he’d command.

More likely Roefs stays, we loan out Ellborg, and have Patterson or Matty Young step into the squad as No.2.

think there is an offer for patto so can see him leaving

cant see him wanting to be a no2.
with Matty young signing a new deal, he will be be used more, and more

we dont need 4 keepers

Neil is going as he kept turning down the deal

Apparently Millwall's valuation is well short of what we're looking for. (£2.5m vs £8m)

They didn't seem too interested on a free a year ago so doubt theh would look now.

They will stick a couple of the academy lady in the squad surely? Not like it says they must play.

Matty might well stay, get his cup games and fill a homegrown.

Works for us in a couple ways.

Ideally he’d probs be a Championship loan but we have a bigger picture now, and more games for him to potentially get time.

We might revisit Cresswell as we could do with an extra CB.

Here's some wild card options:

Verona defender, 25, was with us between ages 17-20.

New Zealand keeper, 27, spent ages 16-19 with us.

Metz winger, 27, SAFC academy graduate 16-19.

Doncaster winger, 28, SAFC 2014-2019.

Huddersfield fullback, 24, spent 10 years with us.

I don't think these are serious viable options obviously, but I found these looking at the 2018-19 season squad, I reckon if you trawled subsequent seasons there might be one or two options for squad fillers who have already done their time in our academy.

I'd rather we just promote some kids from the academy, than sign lads we've got rid of.

In any case, I am supremely confident the club know what they are doing

There's a rule about not having to register homegrown players for the squad if they're U21. So I think that our current crop of academy lads (and Rigg) will be able to play in the Europa regardless of whether they're registered or not.

Think our priority might have to be getting academy lads of ours who are above 21 in for those slots, otherwise you have to leave them blank and we'd effectivley only be able to register 21 players.

As far as I can see it, that means we'll have to use either Neil or Patterson, which seem very unlikely in the case of the former, and possible in the case of the latter. Other than that, the list below are our options:

Henderson seems the only realistic one for me. Maybe we could register Tuterov and keep him around, too. Seemed to do alright in L1.

Wonder why Andrias Edmundsson isn't listed and if there are others it (transfermarkt) has missed?

Will the 'bigger' clubs come and poach our best players or will we resist the lure of filthy lucre?
