Not sure why you are saying that as it’s generally recognised for work on environmental issues, and considered credible?
1. Universities have a clear bias and an agenda when it comes to left wing policies.

2. Smith school of enterprise and the environment - Hardly going to release a report saying it could be beneficial.

well considering they are recognised for their work in environmental issues i suspect they went into it with an agenda plus since a huge chunk of the households in this country heat their houses by gas boilers have they factored in the cost of changing to electric heating .and that bald statement does not show which costs they have included - example the huge upgrade to the Grid which would be required

You do know that the majority of North Sea drilling would be for gas?
The national grid upgrades are going ahead whether we drill or not (I assume you are talking about electrical distribution) as that’s also needed for wind generation.
Seems strange to dismiss an article that basically backs up the UK’s position even before the war in Iran had much of an impact. As I always say, “follow the money” and there is a reason that the energy companies aren’t chasing after it.

1. Energy independence is not really left wing is it. Even our previous right wing government has recognised this?
2. They didn’t mention the environment, so that’s just speculation on your part?

I don't really understand who's right or wrong in this debate, because I ain't got a clue, I just don't like Ed Miliband lol (honesty).

However, I do like listening to Ed Conway, because he explains it to me like I'm a 9 year old, only trouble is it's 16 mins long, but worth listening to, over Supply and Demand, and our current and future needs for LNG.

I still don't know who is right or wrong but I will let you decide for yourselves and then tell me...

There is an oil one he does as well that explains the various grade differences, but don't want to chuck too much at you guys...

I've seen Ed Conway negotiate a bacon roll with minimal collateral damage ... do it's a no brainer..

i knew that Gas would be the first to be exploited but not aware of split of requested licences .
If the point is energy security the renewable argument stands up but the environmental cost would be high .

I took three things from that,
1. The oil and gas industry want tax incentives to invest further.
2. It won’t really help the UK in terms of increased revenue to the exchequer (see answer number 1).
3. Any extra gas produced won’t make us anymore energy independent or reduce our energy bills.
This is pretty much what I posted from the research from the Oxford university group?
IMO, we need to be increasing investment in renewables.

It’s the main policy of the Green party. When was the last time you seen right wing people marching for Just Stop oil?

I suspect that’s the driving factor behind this.

Environment is literally in their name.

I'm quite pleased how we've been mainly unaffected by this crisis in the Strait at the mo. Especially when I've previously read Australians didn't have fuel at the pumps, The German Lufthansa was grounded and KLM the Dutch airline were cancelling hundreds of flights. I'm sure we will start seeing the impact in our groceries soon, but I've kept an eye and I've not seen anything silly as of yet.

Thankfully a lot of this is because we are not heavily reliant on the Middle East, so I suppose the evidence here is we do need to be thinking of things differently as we are, so we are independent and you know what I'm like with our independence, it is quite important to me. The less we have to rely on other people the better, I think most my beef is who is at the forefront of that, and for some reason I can't stand the smug git.

Anyway once we become fully self sufficient, we'll become the next Cuba for someone to pick on but by that stage I'll be dead and not able to swear at the ****ers over the internet. <laugh>

Ipswich/Boro just drawn, now going to turn over for the Merseyside Derby.
