Have a friend in San Clemente who is a massive Trump supporter and hates Newsom with a passion, so for that reason I think he’d make a good candidate <laugh>

And I agree about Biden endorsing Harris, it’s probably going to be to her detriment that.

She seems like the obvious candidate now, but I wouldn’t rule out the Dems throwing a curve ball in there to trip the GOP up.

The biggest issue for the Dems is themselves, they're absolutely appalling at party politics. The Republicans gather around Trump like wasps as soon as he's nominated and change their entire tune to support him.

Trump is anti-establishment and even in his ROC speech spoke about how the top 1% make too much money and the average person struggles, which is completely against Republican lines. Yet they all clapped and agreed, because they are like that.

The Dems have no strategy, no cohesion and look so incompetent compared to the Republicans.

The thing is, it’s easier to garner support for a figurehead who is one dimensional and just plays to whatever is the popularist theme of the day.

Trump could say anything and his supporters will clap and cheer, because they are die hard republicans, many of whom still believe we live in a world where the Commies will infiltrate the US govt and Mexicans will steal all of their jobs and rape their granny if they vote Democrat.

It’s far harder to coordinate support for actual policies than personalities, which I would argue the Dems put more emphasis on.

Just listening to the congressional hearing into the assassination attempt on Trump. The director of the secret service is getting a ****ing roasting for the agency’s failings.

I get it that she has to wait for the FBI to conduct their investigation before she can fully answer the questions, but she is infuriating some of the congressmen and women with her swerving lol

One of them asked her ‘Is the job of the secret service made harder with the availability of high velocity weapons in the US ?’ Which presumably is trying to draw her on her views on gun control, which as an impartial govt director, she cannot give an opinion on

She wouldn’t answer it, and said that the secret service face difficult situations on a daily basis via a range of variable threats.

The guy asking the question was a shade of beetroot after asking her the same question around 5 times <laugh>

Also listening to Yvette Cooper spelling out just how much the Tories failed Rwanda deportation scheme has cost the taxpayer

£700m to send 4 people to Rwanda

and those 4 volunteered to go.

Taking into account the costs of the civil service, detaining refugees, chartered flights, payments to Rwanda etc over the intended course of the whole scheme it would have cost taxpayers £10bn !

Pretty much, just needs Obama to come out in support of her now.

Lots of the other names put forward like Gavin Newsom have also backed her too.

I think it's funny that the Republicans were slating Biden for his age and now they have the oldest presidential candidate in history lol.

I don't think I heard anyone slate Biden for his age, if they did I wasn;t listening. I was concerned for his health, but that's not slating him, that being human and caring for someone. I didn't need anyone to tell me about Biden's condition, I have eyes, and when you get to a certain age, you recognise those signs of deterioration and you ask yourself, is it right the most powerful man in the world has to be cajoled into position in front of a gathering of world leaders. Trumps just a lunatic who is best ignored, he'll throw his dummy out his pram now, because it's dawned on him, he now has a real threat.

At his age, and with that diet he's a coronary waiting to happen

Either that or he'll die shagging a hooker.

Yeah the guy is 81 and as dedicated a public servant as he's been, he's at an age where most people are just enjoying their retirement and taking things easy (if they reach that age) It was clear that he was beginning to struggle in public and you would fear for a guy who would be 86 by the end of his second term.

I actually think 95% of the time, Biden was able to articulate himself very well and he clearly has a handle on his policies. But when you have the most important job in the world and you're making the sort of gaffes that he did in front of a global audience, it's time to call it a day, which thankfully for him and his family he has done.

I think humans try and push boundaries, sadly reality and the fact of life takes over, getting old is a slow process of winding down to the inevitable day, and to me it was torture to watch.

I still can't get over that Kamala Harris is 59, I thought she was way younger than that. What also gets me is all the media keep referring to the colour of her skin 'black' - when I was younger I looked more black than she does once I'd been in the sun. <laugh>

It's absolutely ****ing mental ... if they'd poured that into training and employing extra asylum applications staff, not only would the backlog have significantly reduced - they would also have reduced unemployment / created jobs and been receiving additional payroll taxes into the Exchequer...

You can find that rich and powerful people tend to work into later life. I'm thinking Rupert Murdoch who I think has only just retired at 93. Of course access to the best medical care and a team around you who do most of the hard graft helps lol

And yeah I don't know why they don't just refer to Kamala Harris as mixed race. Saying she's the first black woman presidential candidate as well as being the first south Asian woman presidential candidate just seems like a bit of a mouthful

Edit: Was gonna add Robert Maxwell to that list of oldies still working, but that fat blob fell off that back of a boat when he was 68. Could have sworn he was older than that

Yeah but sending the boat people to Rwanda sounded like a better slogan.

Yeah it's doing my head in a bit where they keep calling her black, but get what you are saying about it being a mouthful otherwise.
