Sunderland AFC will face Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United in round one of the 2019-20 EFL Trophy.
All 48 EFL Clubs have been placed into pre-determined groups, with consideration given to ensure that travel time is minimised for supporters and recovery time is maximised for players.
Jack Ross’ side, who reached the final of the competition last season, will discover their third and final Group A opponent on Friday, as the 16 invited under-21 teams are placed into their respective groups.
The draw will take place live on talkSPORT from 12.30pm, with the Black Cats set to face one under-21 outfit from Aston Villa, Everton, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United or Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Kicking off week commencing 2nd September, the Lads will play two of their Group A games on home soil, with further details to follow after Friday’s draw.
