Many proudly "kept the faith" in their Saints team last season, tough though it was! Prem. fixtures due out tomorrow (14th June)... so, before a ball is kicked, or a player is signed; what are your expectations for Saints in 2018/19 ?
The only thing that I "expect" is that the board don't show the same staggering level of incompetance that they showed last season... *lights the blue touchpaper and waits
I expect a more adventurous style of play, compared to the Pellegrino days, to get the fans onside from day one. My hope is that the fans will be tolerant of mistakes made whilst players bed in/blend, rather than be over critical.
Said I wouldn't moan if they appointed Mark, and they did, so I won't. I do feel we have changed under the new owner, & I'm not expecting us to do much in this shorter transfer window, well unless we sell someone like Lamina, then we will need to spend out of pure panic. Am I really worried......? No, I'm not. With a proper management team and little expenditure, I'd still expect this underachieving squad to finish above at least five teams. Are we going to set the world alight next season? Sadly, no again.
Don't think the style of play will dramatically change, think it will be similar to Koeman's performances minus Pelle and Mane hence we could be in trouble again this season. All depends on who we bring in as boy do we need it. I will always keep faith in the team, the board - no.
They’re a football team who I have supported for my whole life since childhood. This has never required any conscious decision on my part, so I don’t regard my support as being an act of faith. The board have done their level best to make me stop supporting Southampton FC over the last 2 seasons but haven’t managed to do so, mainly because the club I love is bigger than any player, and especially bigger than fat, useless Les and boring, useless Ralph.
I expect we will remain a 'buy them cheap then sell them on' team I expect our football to become more direct and numbers push up front quicker, but we will lose lot of times due to counter attacks. I expect we will finish in the bottom half of the table. I expect the fans to pick a new scapegoat for torment on a monthly cycle. I hope I am wrong
I'm expecting a more entertaining season without expecting a return to the Red Arrows. I don't see us signing many players....more like a couple. Not much money will be spent, but there is always the possibility that one might be a gem. I think we will finish 10-14th with perhaps a couple of forays higher up the table, but hopefully no flirting with the relegation zone. I am not despondent about that because I don't believe that a few poor years mean that you will never be good again....as long as you survive. I hope that Mark gets a response from the team.
Mid table finish, no stars and a summer without mass exodous. Unless we bring in quite a few talented players mid table is where we will (hope to) be.
Our fans have been guilty of this in the past, but last season I'd say we were very patient, maybe too patient. I can accept lacking ability, but not lacking effort.
I believe we will climb to the heady heights of 14 - 16 based on current squad and given I do not expect any substantive signings it is set for a somewhat unremarkable season. My big wish would be to achieve an atmosphere.. Any...let alone intimidation for visiting teams...and before anyone moans I think it is generally cr.p but then has been for the last couple of years. Clearly the Delta here is attacking football so I hope Mark has done all the calculations correctly.
We very nearly didn't renew our ST for this season. In fact we said at one point that regardless of survival or relegation we weren't going to renew. But, survival did give us a boost and a renewed optimism that things will be better than the last two years. So, with ST now paid for my expectations are just that, be better than the last two years.
