Jenny accused us of being sexist - but refuses to give an example of where that is. It concerned me that people on here could be thought of as sexist, as I don't believe they are so I called her on it. If I had seen any example of sexism (such as with Duckhunter) then I'm quite sure I, along with the majority here, would call people on that too. Going back through her post history, she seems to see "disagreeing with her" as "sexist" rather too much to be coincidental. What a terribly miserable existence that must be.

Oh well, to quote Jenny, "I tried".

To be honest, women have always accused men of being sexist. It's a common occurrence and often brought up in the media, only last week I read column in the mirror (kill me) that said women taking the mans name after marriage is sexist.

Haha, not quite that. I just object slightly to be grouped as "sexist". If you knew me, you'd know that I'm quite the opposite. It just seemed strange to come on here saying "I stopped posting because of the nasty sexism" and then refuse to provide an example. I have a day off today so had time to try and understand it! There are lots of examples of what could loosely be termed as "seeing things" with her sadly, which is a real shame - she writes very sensibly and well.

And an awful lot of the time they're right SFTW. To be honest, I personally think that if there's any name-shifting to be done after marriage, then double-barrel it. I don't think it's necessarily a good thing to take the man's name at all, but that's down to personal choice.

In this instance though, there's just seeing strange things that don't exist, whilst simultaneously being offensive to the perfectly reasonable people that use this forum.

No, Jenny was refusing to back up her point which was pretty offensive to people here. She's not posted a huge amount so I thought I'd try and find the part where she became offended by this perceived sexism so I could try and understand why she might feel like that. I'm not trying to prove a point, I'm trying to understand.......and understand I now do.


By the way, there are a LOT of posts that show this issue that rests with her I'm afraid PL. It doesn't take a great detective to find them.

I see it as tradition and personal preference. Sexist is the last thing I think of it.

On other hand, I took Jenny's comments with a pinch of salt. If there was sexism it would have been clamped down on.

Exactly, persistent and deliberate sexism must be a breach of forum rules. As far as I'm aware no one has ever been told off for it, at least not publicly. We're many things on this board but I don't think sexist is one of them.

Exactly. When Duckhunter was being an unpleasant arse (particularly toward PL and women's football as it happens) he got roundly shouted down, and I probably shouted the loudest (I'm actually something of a feminist as it happens - yes, men can be feminists too). It's actually really damaging when a woman starts crying wolf regarding sexism though, which is what I was objecting to in this instance. Sadly it's a trend in her posts.


Anyhow, enough. Back to the football.
 
I know who Jenny was referring to back then (and I'm not going to say who, except that it isn't anyone who's posted today). I think she had a point back then, but I'd like to think, as LTL says, we have clamped down on the likes of Duckhunter and A.N.Other and sexism isn't an issue on this board these days. So if you're reading this Jenny, please give us another chance, we need your input to counter all the oafish man-talk that passes for intelligent comment these days.

I understand that it's an incident that people have been asked not to bring up by the mods - in which case, fine, though I really don't know why that couldn't have been said in the first place. It also doesn't excuse the fact that it's somewhat unfair to come on here banding the term about as if we're all guilty of it (I'm afraid it seems that disagreeing with Jenny constitutes sexism in her mind). But, on the flip side, I've always historically enjoyed her football posts and think she says a lot of great things. Just not one to stand around and accept being grouped as sexist, then dismissed as a moron when I question the basis for that. Sorry.

I see your point, but it's kind of irritating to be looked at us unwelcoming when I reckon this is one of the most welcoming football boards around.
